Guide : Mountain Lion on ASROCK VISION 3D 137 B/D

Hi everybody,

I managed to get ML running on my ASROCK VISION 3D 137D. You can apply this guide on 137B or 137D model (only DVD or Blu-Ray player differ on these computers).

You'll find here a presentation of the computer and here the hardware report for it.

And now, this is how I did (with video output via HDMI cable) ...

A - BIOS Setup

You have to configure the bios (entering in BIOS Settings via F2 key) like this :

1 - Menu "EXIT" -> Load BIOS defaults
2 - Menu "EXIT" -> Load Performance Setup AHCI Mode
3 - Menu "ADVANCED" -> "CPU Configuration" -> "No-execute Memory protection" = "Enabled"
4 - Menu "EXIT" -> "Save and Exit"

B - Install ML via Unibeast

-> I created a "Unibeast for Laptop" USB flash drive
-> See how to on http://www.tonymacx86.com/61-unibeast-install-os-x-mountain-lion-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html

-> You can have some difficulties to boot, but try a few times. Sometimes, you have to push on the power button when it seems freezed at booting ...

C - Post-Installation (1) Using MultiBeast

I used the DSDT file for ASRock Vision 3D (SATA Device Tree 5i + 1e) made by peterhaas that you can find here :

http://www.tonymacx86.com/dsdt/4125-dsdt-database-non-gigabyte-submission-thread-8.html#post57365

-> you have to rename the "2010-12-24-ASRock-Vision-3D-dsdt.aml" file to "DSDT.aml" and put it on the desktop

Many big thanks to Peter for his valuable contribution !

Here are the options I selected :
- UserDSDT
- Driver Audio : Realtek - with DSDT - ALC889a/885
- Disk : 3rd Party SATA + 3rd Party eSata + JMicron36x ATA (+ 10.8.3 TRIM Patch if you use a SSD)
- Graphics : nothing
- Miscellaneaous : FakeSMC + Fake SMC Plugins + USB3
- Network : Realtek - Lnx2Mac's
- Bootloader : Chimera v2.0.1 r2109

NB : I don't really know if "JMicron36x ATA" is needed.

D - Post-Installation (2) Using KextBeast

In order to use Wi-Fi, you have to install two kexts files (system extensions) using KextBeast.

KextBeast is available here : http://www.tonymacx86.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=32

The kext files are the two first in the AtherosAR5B97pack available here : http://www.osx86.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=2588

Which are :
- IO80211Family.kext
- IO80211Family9287.kext

No need to install "IONetworkingFamily.kext"

Conclusion

With this installation, near all the hardware is supported :
- Audio (ALC885)
- Graphic card (NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M)
- Ethernet (Realtek Semiconductor RTL8168/8111 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Adapter)
- WIFI (Atheros AR9287 Wireless Network Adapter)
- USB3
- Sleep
...

You'll have the best Mac Mini ever !

However, I didn't check if card reader and eSATA ports are working.

Some minors problems needs also to be fixed :

- No HDMI audio
- No Remote support
- Computer randomly don't manage to launch OS X after Chameleon boot (it give a black screen after the first "apple screen", very strange)

Hi.

Great guide, worked like a charm. But as you mention in the end, I have the same problem, but worse. I have been able to start up the OS only once after installation, in alla other cases, the screen turns black after the first apple screen. I've tried almost every Chameleon boot option to get past it, but unfortunately i have not :(

Please, if you find a solution to this problem, post it here :)

Hi,

It's not really a solution, but you can avoid this problem changing the monitor : not "monitor parameters" in "system preferences", but physically changing the monitor.

For example, I only managed to boot 1 time on 10 if I put the computer on a very very big TV.

Hope it helps.

I have the 152B/892 audio, HDMI port does not work, DVI2HDMI adapter works fine w/HDMI audio.
eSTATA: works
card reader: breaks sleep, how to: View attachment card_reader.zip
hdmi audio: see Mountain Lion HDMI Audio - AMI DSDT, use 5 Series MB dsdt edits - Desktop
Black screen: recent w/10.8.4, rarely occurs, HDMI cable unplug/replug resolves display

This kext enables WiFi, AGPM and the card reader. Works with native kexts (10.8.4); no patching required, use macbookpro6,1. View attachment vision3D.kext.zip

Hi damrxyz,

Did you install 10.8.3 or 10.8.4 ? According to Toleda, 10.8.4 should solve the video problem.

Regards.

Hi Toleda,

I didn't manage to get HDMI audio on ML, so I just upgraded to Mavericks and would like to know how to do.

I tried this guide and this one, but :

1 - I don't understand if the first lines of my DSDT are good (AMI).

*** Here are the first 22 lines I see in MaciASL :

/*
* Intel ACPI Component Architecture
* AML Disassembler version 20100331
*
* Disassembly of iASLjW1JMW.aml, Sat Oct 26 07:48:56 2013
*
*
* Original Table Header:
* Signature "DSDT"
* Length 0x000061BE (25022)
* Revision 0x01 **** ACPI 1.0, no 64-bit math support
* Checksum 0x6B **** Incorrect checksum, should be 0xE2
* OEM ID "AS388"
* OEM Table ID "AS388115"
* OEM Revision 0x00000115 (277)
* Compiler ID "INTL"
* Compiler Version 0x20091214 (537465364)
*/
DefinitionBlock ("iASLjW1JMW.aml", "DSDT", 1, "AS388", "AS388115", 0x00000115)
{
Name (PHID, "ASRock Vision 3D SATA Device Tree 5i + 1e by [email protected] 2010-12-24")
Method (DTGP, 5, NotSerialized)

***

-> Is it AMI ?
-> What do you think about "Incorrect checksum, should be 0xE2" ?

2 - When I apply a patch, I get a lot of error code 4080.

For example, with source = https://raw.github.com/toleda/audio_hdmi_5series/master and patch = AMI-BIOS-AMD-Nvidia-5_Series-A1, I get 22 errors.

It says "Invalid object type for reserved name (found BUFFER, requires Package)"

Help !

Hi Toleda,

Could you publish the DSDT you made and you talk about in this thread ?

Regards

Hi Toleda,

I use a DSDT that is certainly not for my computer exactly :

http://www.tonymacx86.com/dsdt/4125-dsdt-database-non-gigabyte-submission-thread-8.html#post57365

I just sent to PeterHass the DSDT I extracted from Windows and he made a few corrections on it but :
- audio don't work
- video work only sometimes.

Can you tell what is the best method to extract DSDT in order to send it to you ?

I've heard that it is better using Ubuntu. Is that exact ? And how to do it ?

Best regards
