All,

Just a quick build guide to take you through the process of a successful installation of Mountain Lion on the "CustoMac Pro 2010". I'd also invite those more knowledgeable than I to offer suggestions and support below. I'm absolutely happy to update this guide if others can enhance the content below, provided it's for the same Motherboard and Videocard.

What the heck is a CustoMac Pro 2010?:
tonymacx86 Blog: Building a CustoMac: CustoMac Pro 2010

Variations
* CPU: i7 930
* RAM: 12GB Ripjaws
* Some cheap no-name USB Bluetooth Transceiver

What Works
* Everything except as noted below.

What Doesn't
* No Sleep - July 27th (Actually, I haven't bothered, because I dont put my pc to sleep - I just disable it)
* 1394 - Again, I don't use it, so I just disable it in BIOS.

Disclaimer
Do this at your own risk, and also, I'm not going to lose any sleep at night if sleep or "feature x" doesn't work unless it's important to me. This guide is a working installation with all my own bases covered. I'm writing this so others can get up-and-running as quickly as possible.

And just how did I do this
1. Upgraded my BIOS to FH, in order to do this you must use Windows 7 *sadface* and the @bios utility provided by Gigabyte on their website.
2. In BIOS, disabled the disk controllers that I wasn't using, and set AHCI on the ones that I wanted. Enabled HPET 64-bit too. Changed the boot order.
3. Using an existing mac, I created UniBeast USB as per: tonymacx86 - UniBeast 1.5: Install OS X Mountain Lion on Any Supported Intel-based PC
4. After creating the USB, I booted from the USB, used "Disk Utility" during the mountain lion setup and formated the destination drive. (More information in the URL mentined in step 3)
5. Installed Mountain Lion to the drive mentioned in step 4 by following the prompts.
6. Installed MultiBeast http://www.tonymacx86.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=34
7. Checked the options noted in the attached screenshot in MultiBeast
8. Rebooted, this time booting off my HDD, and not my USB
9. Done, well kinda, I still had to install my own apps. There are also a bunch of tweaks mentioned here that I haven't got around to yet tonymacx86 Forum • View topic - Lion Works in GA-X58A-UD3R v2.0 FF

I hope this helps!

Cheers,
Jeremy

Great- I'm sure there will be many with that configuration that are upgrading to 10.8 :clap:

Chime in -- this more or less is what worked for me.

I have a Gigabyte Radeon 6850 card, and this was my process for a fresh install.

0. Backup! Get Multibeast and KextBeast
1. Make the Unibeast stick according to Tonymac's directions.

6850 GRAPHICS ONLY:
1a. Drag /Volumes/USB/System/Library/Extensions/ATI6000Controller.kext to a different place on the Unibeast USB stick/another drive
1b. Delete /Volumes/USB/System/Library/Extensions/ATI6000Controller.kext
1c. Run Multibeast, select USB as install destination, repair permissions.

2. BIOS -- usual tricks: AHCI for all SATA interfaces, 64-bit HPET, USB-HDD first in boot order to make Unibeast come up.
3. Boot with Unibeast stick in. Choose USB. Boot flags (no quotes): "GraphicsEnabler=No -v"
4. Disk Utility -- reformat install drive, GUID, etc.
5. Install.
6. Boot into your new install drive with the same boot flags
7. Drag ATIController6000.kext to your drive.
8. Run KextBeast.
9. Run MultiBeast with the following settings:

pyB4R.png

This is more or less the same as the old CustomMac settings, BUT the Audio is different -- used the patched Audio as shown above

10. Reboot WITHOUT boot flags.
11. Check everything is working correctly.

DUAL DISPLAY ONLY:

My dual displays didn't work flat out so I needed to edit org.chameleon.Boot.plist to include
AtiConfig=Bulrushes
AtiPorts=4

Then I could run dual monitors off the bottom DVI port and the HDMI port.

thanks, coming soon my guide

thank you for this guide! exactly what I was looking for :)

Do you need the FH bios version for any reason? I have FF and every things works ok too. Thanks in advance.

I'm having issues reaching the installer after creating the USB. I spent hours yesterday trying different combinations of GraphicsEnabler=Yes/No with and without -v and -x, changing PCIRootUID=0/1. I still see a white flicker on the screen and a reboot right after.

Is there something you typed in to reach the installer? I have a Gigabyte X58A UD3R rev 1.0 motherboard and a XFX Radeon HD 6870 1GB AMD video card. My bios is F6. Thanks!

I have a 6870 so had to do the ATI6000Controller.kext delete & put back but other then that I followed the Unibeast guide & ML installed without a hitch, I was even surprised when Audio was working thru my 27" ACD prior to running Multibeast, LAN also worked because I have a PCI Express Ethernet card, I then ran Multibeast with most of the above selections & so far its rock solid.

I tried removing the ATI6000Controller.kext and I still couldn't get to the install screen. :( Did you have to type in GraphicsEnabler=No, or anything like that?
