realistically, any will work. 775 days, i used to use a gigabyte and asus back to back, and both were fine. however, gigabyte 775 boards used realtek audio chips whereas some of the other brands used via. realtek is the way tio go

unless youre going 2nd hand for the parts, id go with the z170 idea or wait until they are fully compitble. paying retail for z97 at this point is a bit of a waste of money.

It'll work. Just get a cheap gfx card. for the mobo, find a good guide for a p67/h67/h61 etc asus board if you need it, and use that as a reference point (those guides will be many years out of date now though, so dont follow them to the letter). main thing you'll use them for is bios settings and how to get around the power management issue....

its your cpu thats the problem, not the board. update to the latest avail bios, put in any E or Q cpu listed here http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=1801 and itll work. might need a different graphics card too, but you could get that build working for peanuts if you buy used parts on ebay.
