USB 3 OWC Mercury Elite Pro external drive spins down after boot

Hello,

I purchased a 1TB Mercury Elite Pro USB 3 external drive to store VI audio files.

I notice once I'm booted, the drive spins down and then spins back up when I'm utilizing the audio from that drive. I have the Energy Saver setting set to not spin down the hard drives.

Anyone know why this is happening and is there a way to fix this?

Hello adiaz,

With external drives they will not be spinning at the same speed 24-7. The drive will spin up and spin down as needed. In Apple's "Energy Saver" you have the option the select or de-select "put hard disks to sleep when possible". You will want to make sure that this option has been de-selected so the drive will never go to sleep.

I do have all my drives de-selected in Energy Saver.

I still believe this drive spins down. Is there a way to test what it does throughout say, a 10-15 minute period?
