I was going to upgrade my Hack from Z68 to a Z87. I installed all my hardware and followed the guides--loading my optimized BIOS settings. I am using UniBeast and booting off a USB drive but I can't even get to the installation screen without getting a kernel panic. I am installing OSX on to my SSD which already has Mavericks installed. Anyone have any ideas?

Same here I guess. Because we have the same CPU which I think is causing this kernel panic the Intel i7 4790. I also have a Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming and a different model of your motherboard (gigabyte z87-d3h) with vt-d disabled.

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff8000379458): "a freed zone element has been modified in zone kalloc.64: expected 0xdeadbeefdeadbeef but found 0xdeadbeef88098809, bits changed 0x56a436, at offset 48 of 64 in element 0xffffff801d942d00,

Boot args: kext-dev-mode=1 -v cpus=1

After this I tried changing some motherboard settings:
Load Optimized Defaults
Peripherals>xHCI Mode>Auto
Peripherals>xHCI Hand-off>ENABLED
Peripherals>EHCI Hand-off>DISABLED
Peripherals>Internal Graphics>DISABLED
Power Management>Wake on Lan>DISABLED
BIOS Features>VT-d>DISABLED
BIOS Features>Boot Mode Selection>Legacy
Save and Exit

Although I have changed all of these settings it gets the same result as with Disabling VT-d only:
Load Optimized Defaults
BIOS Features>VT-d>DISABLED
Save and Exit

Booted with bootflag -v
Now instead of the kernel panic it gets stuck in the process. Last thing on my screen is:
[IOBluetoothHCIController][start] -- completed

I'm going to try again on Monday to see if I can get mine working when I have some time. I am going to be so frustrated if it's the processor that's causing the kernel panic. I've double checked my BIOS settings and made sure my USB stick was fine. I retried it on the Z68 and I got to the setup screen just fine. Based on other postings, I'm starting to think that the 4770k is the processor I should have gone with.

Let me now if you have any luck. Hopefully some other users will chime in with a little guidance.

Guess who just got lucky, the i7-4790 is fine! :)

After setting most of the above settings, I think especially disable VT-d but left Integrated Graphics Enabled.
I got to the point where it hangs at the "[IOBluetoothHCIController][start] -- completed".

Then I got a bit extreme and changed the usb installer, stuck the thing in a MacBook went in Finder to the System/Library/Extensions folder and deleted graphics(the IntelHDA, NVDA, AMD) and bluetooth kext files (anything with bluetooth in its filename).

Entered Setup with the following bootflags

Boot flags:
-v
-x
GraphicsEnabler=No

Then in it 'like' froze again (where it normally loaded IOBluetoothHCIController but we removed these kexts so it skipped them) but went through and displayed the installer with very sluggish graphics (No graphics kexts :p). Then it crashed at 'Setting up Mac' so I restarted and gave it another shot but real quick and created an account and all, rebooted again sluggishness and all...

Installed the kexts with multibeast following the yosemite guide choosing no-dsst at the quick section, had internet connection then lost it after multibeast install and installed it again with multibeast under intel then the intel e1000 v3.0.0.1 or something

after that installed the alternate nvidia driver for my maxwell gpu, didn't have to change the chameleon boot plist file and add the kernel flags was already done somehow.

So the conclusion is the kernel panic (0xdeadbeef) we already kind of solved easily through motherboard settings and choosing the right bootflags. Then the second issue with freeze after iobluetooth we solved by deleting some kexts. For the second issue I found there where also other solutions:

"Issue:stuck at [IOBluetoothHCIController][start] -- completed

Solution:If you have a CPU that does not end in a K, aka unlocked versions, then check your BIOS and look for something called Vt-d and Disable it. This is known to cause issues with OS X while providing no benefit to OS X.
Another issue might be if you are using a VGA cable for your monitor. It's known to not work unless you do some kext editing, so if possible use HDMI or DVI.As always, I've found it best to use IGFX whenever possible"

Sidenote: On my gpu gigabyte gtx970 I have 3 displayport to hdmi cables to my triple iiyama monitors which works great after the alternate nvidia graphics drivers.

I have not used the "-no-zp" boot flag haven't looked what it does yet xD

Audio is the only one left to fix...I think :p

Keep us updated on your status (and document some as well), I'd love to hear from you! ;)

So I just looked for you on my motherboard settings and found that I have 'Intel Processor Graphics Disabled', which is weird because I think I went through the installer on my graphics card, with some basic apple driver or not at all. But this post is for you to report my settings:

*VT-d: Disabled
*Extreme Memory Profile: Profile1 <- this one works sometimes, sometimes not, not sure whether it helped.
Intel Processor Graphics: Disabled <- I had a GPU in all the time though
Initial Display Output: PCIe 1 Slot <- where I have my graphics card plugged in
Display Policy: VGA First (greyed out because intel cpu graphics is disabled)
Sata Mode Selection: AHCI
Legacy USB Support: Enabled
*XHCI Mode: Smart Auto
*XHCI Hand-Off: Enabled
Windows 8 Features: Other OS
Secure Boot: Disabled
Wake on LAN: Enabled
*EHCI Hand-off Disabled
Boot Mode Selection: UEFI and Legacy

Settings with the star I think fixed things.

Some of the above settings are most probably default settings but I don't know for sure and I have played with them that's why I'm reporting them. Let me know what has worked for you PS: Also please update your hardware info in your profile, might help you more than you think, since you have other hardware now ;)

Now after everything is installed I loaded optimized defaults in motherboard and disabled VT-D, OSX runs so Graphics really must have been the culprit after the kernel panic! The notes above might still help you though.

Thank you for posting that information wouspix! If I have some time on Friday I might try and mess with the Z87 otherwise it will have to wait until Monday. I can't imagine the 4790 causing this many problems. I have seen many users posting successes with the the Z87-UD3H so hopefully I am just overlooking something in the BIOS and can get this Hackintosh up and running. I love my Z68-UD3H (who doesn't, probably the most popular Hack board of all-time) but feel the need to step up and put a little more juice under the hood. I really don't want to have to drop another $300 on a CPU. But if I have to switch to a 4770K, that's my very last resort.

The CPU is great, just some settings in motherboard with the right boot parameters and without kexts that cause issues. :p

Have tested with only the VT-d setting on disabled but it caused a kernel panic on 2nd (after shutdown probably) reboot when switching to the other settings (the list with the *'s :p) I did not get a panic.

To get the Audio working ALC892 on Z87X-D3H get the older version on MultiBeast 6.1.0 and select the ALC892 codec and install see http://joereth.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/MultiBeast-Mavericks-Edition-6.1.0.zip the new version fails :p

Enjoy!

This thread should be under Yosemite Desktop support

So I tried tonight with the settings and everything... still got kernel panics. Here are a couple of screenshots of where I got hung up. If someone sees something, please holler! I've attached the pictures.

I finally got it to work! I switched to the 4770k processor with the same BIOS settings and bingo! I am now running Mavericks on my Z87-UD3H!!!

Just ordered the i7 4790 and a GA-H87... :banghead:

It is now supported since the F9 Bios version. Which Bios version do you have? That may cause the problem with your CPU.
