Ok, guess I need to start a new thread about this.

I did a successful install of Mavericks 10.9.4 (se hardware specs below) using Unibeast 4.02 and Multibeast 6.4.0. Everything works perfectly except USB 3.0.

First I tried with the GenericUSBXHCI kext but the drives connected could not be properly read and ejected immediately. Then I read somewhere that OS X 10.9 natively supports the USB 3.0 chip on this board (Fresco FL1009) so I just removed that GenericUSBXHCI kext. It did not get worse at least. The USB ports appear in System Profile (2 x 3.0 Hi-Speed Bus, 2 x 3.0 SuperSpeed Bus and then the 2.0 ones). It all looks fine so far. When I plug in a USB drive it shows up in Disk Utility and also looks fine. But when I look at the drive in Finder it takes a long time for the files to be listed. When I access a file the drive gets ejected pretty soon. And it is almost impossible to write to it – it behaves weird, slow and always ejects after a short while.

I also tried erasing and partitioning the USB 3.0 drive in the Disk Utility but then it said it could not unmount it or something.

I can plug in 3.0 devices in 2.0 ports with no problem, as well as 2.0 devices in 3.0 ports.

Build:
CPU:Intel Core i7-4930K
MotherBoard:GA-X79-UP4 BIOS F5
Graphics: GeForce GTX 780
Ram: Vengeance Pro 16GB 2133MHz
CPU Cooler:Corsair Hydro H80i
HD: Samsung 840 EVO Series SSD 250GB
Power: Corsair 760 W
Case: Fractal Design R4
Apple wireless keyboard, Apple Trackpad
Bluetooth:
Trust Bluetooth 4.0 adapter

Any clue that leads to the solution of this mystery would be highly appreciated.

(I followed the installation procedure given in this thread: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mavericks...-4930k-3-4ghz-gtx-780-mavericks-10-9-2-a.html. Thanks Afuera!)

I have the exact same problem as you. I have the GA-X79-UP4 board with an i7-4960K chip and any USB 3.0 drives ejects as soon as you try to write to it.

I thought I had just done something wrong in installation so I reinstalled but the same problem is still there. Seems to only affect larger drives though. My 1 TB 2.5" drive seems to work (it's been connected for a week now without ejecting. Btw I have 9 USB 2.0 drives connected and they have all stayed nicely connected for a week too), but not the 3.5" 4 TB.

This USB 3.0 chip is supposed to be natively supported by Mac OS 10.9 so I am stumped.

I upgraded the BIOS to F7 but that makes no difference.

Maybe bug in Mac OS?

The problem happens with my 1 TB Western Digital Enterprise drives so I don't think size seems to matter, at least for my build. It ejects as soon as the drive has to write something. My bios is still version F5. Like you, if I plug it in with USB 2.0, it works fine. I'm trying out E-SATA now.

That's a 3.5" drive right? Could you try with a 2.5"?

I only have 1 2.5 drive and that's my SSD system drive. What is odd is that the issue is lessened by only having 1 USB 3.0 device plugged in versus 2. E-SATA worked fine by the way.

Yes it seems like when USB 3.0 devices are connected to the USB 3.0 ports then they somehow max out the USB bandwidth. It appears to me that it even affects the USB 2.0 devices since the mouse goes slow and jerky too. At least that is my experience.

I would really like to know if this problem that we have is just us, or if this is a general problem. How many people out there with this build have actually even used their USB 3.0 ports seriously enough to run into this problem if it is there?

Same here. usb3 drives ejecting.

It really seems to me that there is a bug in the Apple driver for that USB 3.0 chip, that appears with that MB. Would be nice if one of the real experts out there could figure out a solution.

Apart from this problem my build works perfectly and is a real winner.

It would be useful. Everything else seems to work.
