Greetings,

I recently aquired a new SSD and figured i'd use my older one to dualboot windows and Mavericks.
Never having tried my hand in creating a Hackintosh and with close to 0 experience with Apple products I figured "How difficult could it possibly be" and went to work.

After loads of work i finally had a usb stick with Mavericks, unibeast and multibeast and started the installation. At first i had trouble even getting the installation to start properly. All that happened was that the screen would go from black to bluegreyish and back again with either a mousepointer or a spinning beachball during the black parts.

If the cursor remains as a pointer all i need to do is wait a minute or so and i'll be presented with the "chose your language" screen and unless i remember to remove my headset a screaming voice in my ears.
This part of the installation process now goes smoothly, i create the partition i want on the now empty SSD and proceed to install Mavericks.

After the first reboot it is my understanding that you are supposed to again boot from the USB and now choose the "Mavericks" option to get to all the personal bits about appleid and computername and all that but this is where my problem arises.

I have yet been unable to get past the Apple and spinning wheel screen and I'm starting to lose hope this will ever come to fruition.

What I've tried so far concists of using the flags for -v and then -x wich will start the apple screen, spinning wheel and a loading bar wich fills about halfway and then goes away and that's all that happens.

I've also attempted the GraphicsEnabled=Yes and No without result. I'll probably now reboot and do the -v to get a photo of the result to post here in the hopes that someone will see something that might help.

Another person trying a GA-Z98X board! I just spent most of the day building a new machine around a GA-Z97X-UD5H board and an i5 4690k with a GTX660 graphics card, so our systems should be fairly similar.

My own installation went with relative ease, although, I still don't have on-board sound working correctly. Nor do I have c-states and p-states as of yet.

One thing I did do, that you did not mention, is disable the VT-d and integrated graphics in the bios (GraphicsEnabler=Yes). I disabled integrated graphics because while it may be possible to get them working I'm perfectly okay using the graphics card. Ad for VT-d, I read about disabling it elsewhere on the forum.

Hello and thanks for the info regarding your system, it atleast gives me hope when your hardware is so much like mine. The only real difference that i can see wich could affect me is our motherboards. I will add a couple more photos to this post where you can see what settings i'm using in BIOS.

I'd also be interested in knowing if anyone using the same motherboard as i am have a different bios version or something like that.

I did try booting with GraphicsEnabler=Yes but no joy.

Sorry to hijack the thread slightly, but I have a very similar build to both of you (i5 4690K, GA-Z97MX Gaming 5, GTX 770). I built mine a few weeks back and to this day I can still only boot into safe mode :banghead:
However, on this thread and others I have read about this "C-States and P-States" business and considering that is the only thing I have not touched, I reckon this must be the missing link...
From what I understand they are related to the turbo boost feature, is this correct? But more importantly, could you please explain how you disabled these states?

Thank you in advance :D

Alright, progress has been made... (i think)

Wen't back to the start and booted up the installation program, formatted the disk and installed again.
(notable here was that i could not load the installation program if i had disabled the internal intel graphics, resulted in panic something something deadbeat blabla)

When the time came to reboot and load up the new installation it got stuck on apple logo spinning wheel screen. Went back into bios and deactivated the graphics again and tried to load again and now i'm here. In Mavericks without -x or any other flag.

Now it's time to use multibeast and i'm kinda unsure of what i should select. The boot loader is a given since i don't want to mess around with manually selecting which disk to boot from but as for all the settings and what not... well.

Given that I'm sitting on a GA-Z97X-SLI motherboard (now with bios F5) does anyone here know what i should chose? Also is there something akin to windows device manager where i can see what hardware has a "driver" or what i think is called kext here in macworld?

Hope this will help someone else facing the issues i had. I have also yet to restart and see if it was a fluke.... should i? :D

So, a little bit more on my system. I still don't have the onboard ALC1150 working, and I'm not sure it is possible at this point (not until Apple adds support for the z97 chipset). And while my system appears to be able to sleep, reboot, and shutdown okay, the sleep portion is not working correctly yet, in that it does not stop the system fans.

As to my current setup, here's a list of the drivers I installed via Multibeast:

Drivers -> Audio -> Realtec ALCxx - > ALC1150
Drivers -> Audio -> Realtec ALCxx - > Intel 9 Series Motherboard Support
Drivers -> Disk -> 3rd Party SATA
Drivers -> Misc -> ElliottForceLegacyRTC
Drivers -> Misc -> EvOreboot
Drivers -> Misc -> FakeSMC v6.9.1315
Drivers -> Misc -> FakeSMC v6.9.1315 Plugins
Drivers -> Misc -> NullCPUPowerManagement
Drivers -> Misc -> USB 3.0 - Universal
Drivers -> Network -> Intel -> AppleIntelE1000e v3.1.0
Drivers -> System -> AppleRTC Patch for CMOS Reset

As for the other Boot Option settings, I now have Generate CPU states, GraphicsEnabler=Yes, Hibernate Mode - Desktop, IGPEnabler=NO, Use KernalCache, and Verbose Boot selected in addition to the default options.

I also have iMac 14,2 selected for my system definition.

Thanks for the update!

As for me i'm starting to think my issues lies with using multitbeast at all. I've now reinstalled yet again since when i install chimera, set tony black theme and use the basic boot option it has so far stopped me from booting into mavericks.

As for right now with 2-3 tries restarting the computer i've experienced that first boot gives some sort of panic with something i honestly can't decipher, next boot works perfectly and right now i'm debating ignoring chimera since it seems to mess up my system when i install it.

I'm assuming that chimera bootloader is what i'm using when i boot using the usb stick, please correct me if i'm wrong!

I personally don't really care if the onboard audio or graphics work or not since i use neither of them. What i'm concerned about is a stable system that will let me use my computer.

How optimised is multibeast for the z97 chipset really? Does it 100% support our systems?

My understanding is that support for the Z97 chipset is still spotty. It has only been out for a bit over 3 months at this point. The only reason I got a Z97 board instead of a Z87 was because I wanted to future proof my new system (and it was cheaper than the Z87 equiv.), since I hope to use it for ~5 years and these boards are supposed to be compatible with 5th gen (yet to be released) Intel CPUs.

That said, I'm surprised you are having as much trouble as you are getting your system to boot properly. The fact that you are able to install the OS via UniBeast would seem to indicate that you should be able to. My own system seems to be stable with the only significant issue (other than onboard graphics and sound) being sleep.

Regarding kernal panics. I almost always get at least one kernal panic after the initial installation (and later after clearing system caches). I think it has something to do with hardware recognition. Usually it will go away on a 2nd boot attempt, unless something got messed up. It may have something to do with the lack of a DSDT, but I am uncertain.

(And yes, the Chimera boot loader is what is used by UniBeast. It and the associated Extra folder are just made invisible on the USB stick. I discovered this when I had to modify the org.chameleon.Boot.plist at one point for another machine in order to get it to boot the installer.)

Well I'm sure we will see better support for the z97 chipset sooner or later, for now i can live with using my usb to boot since everything else seems to work so well right now. Even sleep worked tonight and my computer woke up smoothly this morning.

My only little issue right now is that my main monitor connected with HDMI doesn't get recognized instantly when i start up. Just cycling the power on the monitor will fix it but I wouldn't mind not having to do that.

Anyway, thanks for the info and assistance. I'll probably keep reading this forum since it seems to be fairly active and i bet it contains loads of information for our Hackintosh needs.
