After doing everything in this http://www.tonymacx86.com/general-help/110471-how-fix-imessage.html post, I tried something else.

If Messages work for you in 10.8 and you still have a backup somewhere, go to your backup smbios and grab all your old information. Replace your current smbios with what you had in 10.8. (I'm assuming the SMboardproduct and SMserial are the two factors in play).

This worked for me. Hopefully it will help some people out with similar problems.

Cheers.

It worked! I thought that the serial was the same between ML and Mavericks, but a closer look at my old SMBIOS file backed up with Time Machine showed me otherwise. Copied and pasted the old for the new, rebooted, and FINALLY got my original Messages account recognized. I had tried everything at the "How to fix iMessages" thread with no luck. I knew something was amiss as I could sign in and use Messages with another Apple ID that I hadn't used for a while, but not with the account I had formerly set up on my ML install.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing! :-D

I tried this some time ago and it did not work. (using smbios from mountain lion)
I left my old smbios from ml in mavericks .
Later used nvram module
I ignored the accompanying article just dropped in module and deleted old plist for module.
That worked on Mavericks.

Afterwards I got a macbook on which I installed Mavericks.
Imessages still worked although I got a flurry of messages from Apple to all my devices.
The messages alerted me about new email addresses that were added ( they were old ones ).
Apstore worked fine for a few times on updates on Macbook.
Then Apstore would not log me in.
When I used an old email address it logged me in.
Note my icloud and me.com work require my current id to login but Imessage will only recognize the old one on Macbook.
On my hacks one id works for everything.

iMessage is just weird.
Something on the Apple side is quirky and changes on your Hack or Mac may or may not fix it.

One brave individual actually contacted Apple and told them he had a hack and wanted to fix iMessage.
They said there are hard ids and soft ids. So he switched to his hard id and it worked on his hack.

There is a book in second edition called "Taking Control of ICloud".
I have not read it but may.
