Hey guys! Gonna install Mac OS Maverick on my rig, cause ive been wanting to use their editing apps and for a change too :)
Specs.
Intel Core i3-2120 3.3Ghz
4GB Memory
GTX 650 Ti
Asus P8H61 MLE USB3
1x160GB Hitachi 5400Rpm (Mac boot drive)
1x1TB Seagate (Windows boot driver)
1x500GB Seagate (Movies/Music/Games)

Quick Question Guys!! If ever I am going to upgrade some parts of my computer which would be the best? New Processor or More Memory. I am on a tight budget but I would like to make my hacintosh good :)
Cheers and more power!!
Will post progress here :)

Here is where I think that you want to end up - this is not all possible if you are on a tight budget and looking for a quick speed boost. The cumulative effect of these upgrades is really worthwhile and gives much zippier performance.

  • Upgrade to 8GB RAM - makes the system feel noticeably better
  • Add a SSD for each operating system and its applications ~250GB SSD are very quick and more affordable than 6 months ago.
  • Upgrade to a Sandy Bridge i5-2500K processor (keep an eye out on eBay for a good example if buying a new one is not so easy)

The RAM and SSD will give you an easy upgrade that will make the machine feel much better - the processor upgrade would be a better addition once the other two steps have been completed as your GPU is probably fine for now.

edit: Currently stuck at these. Anyone willing to help? IMG_2689.jpg

UPDATE: Changed my graphics card to my old which is N210 and is working fine, installed ML 10.8 used multibeast but no sound. Going to update to 10.8.5 hope this fixes sound and would be able to put my gtx 650 later. Getting tired ~_~

Your board uses ALC 887. I remember something about BIOS ROMs and audio on Sandy Bridge boards, see here:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/user-buil...sus-p8p67-le-i5-2400-gtx-550-ti-10-7-4-a.html

"A warning! Not all 3xxx roms are available as only P8P67-LE, -M, -M PRO and Maximus IV Extreme have working audio with this series of rom installed. If you still have any other boards than these, remain on the pre-3000 series roms. This problem was discovered a while ago and the database has been updated to reflect which roms will break the system and which will not, so you can only download the working rom for your system. Remember DSDT and bios versions must match up!"

EDIT - meant to add that it might be worth opening a new thread asking about this over in Forum/Post Installation/Audio.

Note that HDMI audio requires additional work, the above mentions ALC887 refers to the green audio port. Sometimes the easiest solution is http://www.tonymacx86.com/audio/98115-simple-plug-n-play-usb-audio-device-os-x.html

Audio needs to be re-applied after each incremental OS X update (10.8.3 - 10.8.4 for instance)

Thanks for fast response mister!! Appreciate it :)

Edit: Tried to update to 10.8.5 cant boot even with -x -v PCIRootUID=0 UseKernelCache=0 -f -F GraphicsEnabler=No. So i tried using my 650 and still no luck then reinstalling ML 10.8 now. Hope I can do this its been 36 hours and im freaking tired. planning to skip all this and get mavericks instead. Currently using N210, why does it not support GTX650 Ti even with boot flags i thought ML supports them natively. Any other work around on this?

Edit: Forgot not using the modded bios only using the updated stock one. Will this make a difference?

Update: Used patched bios, freshly installed ML 10.8 and using Nvidia 210 still cant get it to work with 650 Ti even with boot flags and still no sound. Used different AppleHDA kext and HDAenabler still no good. Gonna update it to 10.8.5 with combo update hoping that this would let me use my 650 ti and fix my audio. If this fails imma take a break. Aaaaaaaaaaand DAMN Bootmngr is missing. S A D B O Y here :<

Update 2: Successfully installed 10.8.5 but having long white screen issues. Now booted in safe mode i still dont have sound but i did when not in safe mode(?). Any idea whats causing the long white screen? Nearly done and any any drivers that i need to fully us this machine to its full potential? :)

Update 3: Is there sound in safe mode? Gonna fix the BootMngr thing so i could boot back to windows.

Special thanks to Mr. Adrian B for constant response in my noob questions. Kudos to you mate :)

Booting in safe mode (-x) gives basic video only and NO audio. I would boot using

Code:
PCIRootUID=1 GraphicsEnabler=No

Note these boot flags are case sensitive - use only a space between them. Do not punctuate:thumbup:

If that does not work then add

Code:
-v

You will get several lines of text. Take a good clear picture and upload it here using the 'manage attachment' feature below.

Good luck
