Hi All
my system is based on:
Motherboard Gigabyte EP43-UD3L s775 C2Q 1333Mhz, Intel P43, DDRII 1333, PCI-E
Prossesor Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550, 1333Mhz, s775, 12MB Tray
Memory DDR II 800Mhz 2x2GB Samsung Value
Hard disk Seagate 500GB 7200RPM, 16MB, SATA II ST3500418AS
OS X 10.6.8 runs on iBoot + MultiBeast

I want to upgrade my hardware but keep my software system as is.
can I use this Hardware to upgrade:
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD7 TH LGA1150, Intel Z97 (It has XCHI mode)
Prossesor Intel Core i7 4790K 4.0Ghz 8MB L3 Cache s1150
Memory Kingston ValueRam 4x8GB DDR3 1600Mhz KVR16N11/8

or even going to the extreme with this hardware:
Motherboard Gigabyte MW50-SV0
Prossesor Intel Xeon E5-1620 v2 3.70Ghz 10MB Cache
Memory Kingston HyperX Predator 4x4GB DDR4 2133MHz

my plane is to change the motherboard, prossesor and ram, set up bios setting and just plug all in.

is this doable ? do i need to use a spesifce hardware or configure somthing else?

thanks in advance..

If you are wishing to use Snow Leopard as the operating system then you should read this:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/buying-ad...older-versions-os-x-using-older-chipsets.html

Using iBoot with modern hardware is not really recommended - it is only designed to be a temporary solution to allow you to upgrade to the latest version of OS X from the App store. While it is possible to use iBoot to boot to Snow Leopard on more modern hardware you need to be aware that the RAM is limited to 4GB and the graphics only work in Safe mode - I get a 4:3 screen resolution on my Haswell H87/i5-4440 hardware after updating the UEFI/BIOS to a more modern version.

If Snow Leopard is what you need then I would be considering an older MAC PRO/iMac or Mac Mini from around 2009/2010 as these should run Snow Leopard just fine. There must be good examples being sold that have been upgraded with additional RAM.

Thank you for the full response and the useful links.
after reading the evolution of possessors and different kinds of build I think its clear to me which hardware i can use, but just to be sure is this hardware would work?

Intel Core i7-2600K Quad-Core Processor 3.4 Ghz 8 MB Cache LGA 1155

Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX

Kingston ValueRAM 8x4 GB 1600MHz DDR3 PC3-12800 Non-ECC CL11 DIMM Motherboard Memory KVR16N11/8

I have another question regarding my hard drive, i wanted to upgrade my system drive to SSD.
is cloning my hard drive with "carbon copy cloner" for example will do? or do i need additional configuration ?

thanks again

Perform a clean installation of Snow Leopard on the new hardware and get it running properly. You can then connect the old HDD to one of the Sata ports on the motherboard and use the Migration assistant application to pull across your settings/preferences and data from the original installation.

There are settings that your original hardware used that will probably conflict and cause problems if you try to boot a cloned installation. Cloning from HDD to SSD is not very successful anyway.

Sandy Bridge CPUs supported 1333MHz RAM speeds. If you cannot find any at this speed then you can use 1600MHz RAM - It will work at 1333MHz speeds with your hardware.

Thanks for your reply

I did try to clone my HDD using Disc Utility/ Restore Hard disk, but as you said it was not very successful, I had problems with the display and after numerous attempts i got to the point that I had full resolution for both of my screens but in the display pref. they were backwards (left was right and right was left).
also in my research I came across this issue
http://tonymacx86.blogspot.co.il/2011/07/get-ready-for-os-x-lion-update-to-1068.html

of installing updateHelper for sandy bridge processor with 10.6.8 before installing the combo update

so staring a fresh install sounds the best option for me, installing 10.6.3 updatehelper and combo 10.6.8.

By Migration assistant application to pull across your settings/preferences and data from the original installation. Do you mean time machine ?

Again thanks for the help

I would think that your 'new' system would just need to be running 10.6.8 with all the other related Apple updates from the App store.

Migration Assistant is an application that you will find inside the Utilities folder in your Applications.
http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT4889

You are able to migrate your settings, Data, apps etc from a Time Machine backup or from the original drive connected to the new computer on another Sata port.

Hi

Back for more help....

well i bought all the hardware installed it and started the software installition

the hardware is:

Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3 iSSD
Processor Intel Core i7-2600
Ram Kingston 8x2 GB 1600MHz DDR3
Hard Drive Samsung SSD 840 pro 256G

For software installation
I used iBoot Legacy 2.7.2
then installed 10.6.3 form flash drive step by step like this manual http://tonymacx86.blogspot.co.il/2010/04/iboot-multibeast-install-mac-os-x-on.html.
combo updating to 10.6.4 then 10.6.5 then 10.6.6 then 10.6.7
not installing MultiBeast 3.10.1 yet. but booting with iboot and all runs well
Install updatehelper for sandy bridge processor,
restart and then combo update 10.6.8 then MultiBeast 3.10.1
Choose EasyBeast install+system Utilities.
Installation ends successfully, restart and here is when the trouble begins....

when trying to boot without iBoot its just stuck at looking for a system...
then when booting with iBoot its stuck at the apple logo white screen
then when trying to boot in safe mode -x i get a kernel panic !!!!

any idea what went wrong ???

You could just use the 10.6.8 combo straight away as it includes the changes/updates in the previous combo updates.

Choose EasyBeast install+system Utilities.

If you have an award BIOS then use the 'User DSDT' option with a DSDT to match your board and BIOS version. If you have a UEFI type BIOS then you need to use 'DSDT Free'.

Sounds like you have certainly got some incorrect MultiBeast settings. What GPU are you using and what were the setting from MultiBeast that you applied?

From Flash drive?

yes i did a copy of the dmg file to 16g usb flash drive instead of installing from dvd (it works faster)

my gpu is nvidia 8400gs 512

as i posted before i used the EasyBeast option
with no other setting( worked fine for my previuos build... )

ill try the use the user dsdt option and ill update what is the result

again thanks so much for the help

:banghead:

Well here is an update of my build:

I tried using DSDT installation but no luck.... however i tried again EasyBeast and i changed the boot priority and it worked !!!!
now i can boot to the new system and i also used the migration assistant to transfer all applications and files, the first try didn't work well, i got error for extantions not installed properly...
the second try went well and i tested some apps and it all worked.

next i tried to install the graphic card i had on the old machine a Zotac GT620 1GB (2 DVI) which worked perfect and had full support for dual display.
I used a nvidia 8400gs 512 just for the installation and it had full support also.
after i switched the card i got no
support at all for the display.

I tried to edit the com.chameleon.boot.plist to the setting i had on my old machine but it only made things worse.... no boot no nothing...

I had a backup of the extra folder so I replaced it back to the setting that worked, this also didn't work that well... somehow my bios setting went crazy and it took several times to access to system and to replace to extra folder.
after that i was able to boot to the system but with some error regarding a startup item and my main software (pro tools- sound editing) is not working.

Now what to do next?
How to i get full support for my graphic card? i need dual display for my work....

regarding the software ill try to re-install it and see if it works.
