Hello, I'm sorry if there are other threads regarding this situation - but I'm actually new to "tweaking hackintoshes". This is my problem and maybe someone could point me in the right direction or redirect this thread to the more appropriate Sub-Forum.

I currently use a MacPro Late 2009 Mac Pro, I game and do editing on it for work/free time - so I needed to upgrade my Graphics card. About a year and a half ago, an old colleague of mine installed a MSI Twin Frozr 7890 into my MacPro (didn't explain the process but I recall it had something to do with MultiBeast and swapping old graphics cards and my current to get the process running). Anyhow, He upgraded my cards and it's worked great. The only thing was I don't get the Apple start-up screens but Bootcamp was fantastic so it wasn't a big deal.

I haven't updated my computer since Lion but for working purposes I must upgrade to Yosemite and my computers getting a bit sluggish since I can't upgrade unless I have him fix the graphics card situation. He no longer lives close by, and nobody I know sort of is knowledgeable in this field. I'm fine with doing it myself if someone could possibly point me in the direction of how the process is done, where I can find the Device ID on my set graphics card, and any other sort of help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you so much and I apologize again for possibly making a thread that might already exist. :(

He most likely re-flashed your graphics cards with the Mac EFI graphics card BIOS. If he did use MultiBeast, he needed a graphics kext that would allow your 7890 to work in Lion. Chances are it will work natively in Mavericks. I recommend these Mac Pro forums for more information:

BTW, I'm running Mavericks on my MP3,1 (2008) with a PC 5770 graphics card; no boot screen, but it works great with Mavericks. Apple silently started supporting PC graphics cards in 10.8.5 (like the 7950), but they don't support the boot screen unless they're flashed with an Apple EFI BIOS. See the above links for more information.

Interesting, and thank you for the response. I watched him do most of it. From what I recall, we had the Window's Disks for Boot camp, we had Lion on a bootable Thumb drive that I had from my Apple Account, there wasn't any flashing of the drive (I don't believe) he just had Multibeast installed (with the original gfx cards in the tower), plugged in a Device ID (which I can't find now or have no idea what it is), fixed an accelerator files? And then updated the OS, swapped cards and who-la. I think that's what took place anyhow. :(

thank you for your reply though, I will take a look at your links!

Stork's advice is right on track.
I assume you have a mp 4,1.
Card should work fine without tweaks with Yosemite.
Earlier OSX versions Lion and Mountain Lion did have some quirks with 7950.
Note no boot screen is most likely with an unflashed card.
Flashing cards is somewhat risky.

If Chameleon Chimera or Clover were used to get it going you should see their boot screens not Apple.
You would not need those anymore.

I am using a non Apple card in MP 4,1 with Yosemite. No boot screen.
It is not a 7950.
