No luck until now with installing a brand new Asus PCE-A68 in my Mac Pro 3.1 (Early 2008) in Mavericks 10.9.2: The card is properly recognized, but the card consistently refuses the ac mode - instead it is running in a mode with ridiculous 54 Mbps (but very stable ):

I had high hopes in this card (not supported by ASUS under MacOSX) because the Broadcom 4360 chip is natively supported by MacOSX Mavericks. DPCI Manager tells me the same, so everything should be ok:

I was already looking around in the Network forums here but I simply cannot find anything because this chip should would out of the box, but doesn't.

Any ideas how I could bring that further? From what I read here, I am quite confident that this little beast should work. Would be great for my good old MacPro, which is otherwise still in good shape.

Many thanks for any suggestions for moving on.

Asus PCE-A68 in MacPro 3.1 - partial success

Oh, this is quite a shame: On my Netgear R7000, I had WMM disabled very soon, which lead to the router falling back to the a protocol. Now I am at least back in the ac mode, with performance still being very poor (below 200 mbps), but at least the card works in the correct mode. Probably heading for the WRT firmware soon, crossing fingers that I can get similar results like in Windows (currently 600 mbps).

This means that there are no issues with the card working in the correct mode.

I'm currently peaking at 600Mbps. I have the ASUS PCE-AC68 hooked up to an ASUS RT-66U at 5GHz, so I should be seeing 1300Mbps, right?

You'll never reach the advertised speed of a modern wireless network adapter. Even if it says it connected @something, the real throughput will be around half of that something. You are doing great, would love to see a guide for how you got it to work, and does it also feature working bluetooth?

Here is what I'm talking about: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7127/the-joys-of-80211ac-wifi/2

I don't care about actual throughput, I'm curious why everyone else is connecting at 1300 and I'm only connecting at 600. It seems to be working out of the box for everyone but me. And if I can get better than what I get over regular ethernet it will free my box up so I won't be tied to the router.

This card doesn't have Bluetooth, it's just an 802.11ac card. I have a Bluetooth 4.0 USB dongle.

I just discovered http://www.osxwifi.com/ who have 11ac cards for both Mac Pro's and hackintoshs for the same and less money than the ASUS PCI-A68.
