Hey guys!

I seem to be having an issue on iCloud.com with removing devices from my iCloud account.

I recently upgraded from a Hackintosh, to a 5K Retina iMac. I'm trying to remove said Hackintosh from my account though...and it won't remove.

Everything else I can delete, but not that one. It just refuses to go anywhere. I've already unlinked my iTunes library. And I don't have messages going there anymore so I'm just confused on what could be holding on.

Any recommendations?

Any suggestions if that doesn't do the trick? I logged out and still can't delete it, might be because the hackintosh's serial number changed before I logged out.

New serial number/definition does not show up, however, only the old one.

Likewise, Ive done the same thing too. Oops.

I didn't realise it would register a device when a connection to my iCloud account happened on my first install and due to sound problems I did a rebuild of my first install which still shows on my iCloud account (on the 2nd build I made the adjustments to my Board SN to enable iMessage and this works correctly for another AppleID account)

logging out of iCloud and removing it doesn't work - the SN no longer exists!

I did call Apple but they were lost as to how why i couldn't delete the SN from my iCloud and didn't seem to have any capability to delete it themselves.

I'm tempted to delete my Apple ID completely and start again with a new Apple ID, but unsure if using the same email address is possible and whether it just sucks the same state back anyway.

UPDATE: I set my SN to the number listed on my iCloud, a 2nd Mac Pro appeared with a different SN, but I was then able to delete the original bad SN. I then changed to the new SN and deleted that and another SN iMac appeared. this time with D25LHACKFJ8C - which looks to be a clover generated SN. So I am no further forward and still have a rogue SN on my iCloud and my actual Mackintosh not listed on my iCloud account.

3rd attempt. I set SN to D25LHACKFJ8C and googled this value and found it was a clover default and changed the SmUUID to 55ADE930-5FDF-5EC4-8429-15640684C489
The above are both "default" clover values for iMac 14,2. rebooted. login as local user. signed in to iCloud and was then able to remove device. sign out of iCloud and it stayed removed. woohoo ! double checked in appleid.apple.com

I then reset my SN, SmUUID (with clove configurator) back to the working values that i have kept from iMessagedebug v2 - rebooted, logged in to local account, then signed in to iCloud (Sys Prefs) and I now only have 1 known iMac with a good SN on my iCloud list of devices.

I am facing the same problem and I have the same mentioned SN in my iCloud that cant be deleted. One question: How did you reset/change the SN and SmUUID? Did you mount the EFI partition, opened the there located config.plist and just changed it in the SMBIOS menu? So generated a new SMBIOS but then pasted the old SN and SmUUID there? Saved the settings and afterwards you rebooted? I am a little bit worried to mess up my system so it won't boot anymore if I do a mistake... :shifty:

Edit: My Serial is D25LHACKF8JC and I could find your mentioned UUID connected with it. Maybe you have a typo in your post.

This was 3 years ago.
I probably used Clover Configurator to edit the EFI config.plist.
It was more luck than anything else. Like I said I found it used what appeared to be default SN and smUUID numbers on initial registration, that once input meant I could remove iCloud and remove the device.

I tried it like you wrote in your post 3 years ago @ralphdt . But it doesn't work anymore. Guess the old ...F8JC serial is blacklisted and therefore stucks in my iCloud (web overview). Instead of only the wrong/old device, the new and the old one are displayed in the iCloud device overview (web overview only). Seems that someone had the same problem (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8009851) but no news about how they finally fixed it.

I found a ****** article (March 17) suggesting my hack worked for them. There quite likely has been changes to clover since then that I’m not aware of. Sorry it didn’t help, at least those coming after know my post may not be valid.

My journey was multi-step. I needed to set the SN to the one I needed to delete first, it took a couple of steps of an iMac reappearing until it reappeared with the F8JC SN. It did feel more by luck than a strict/known method, at the time I couldn’t find much info on this. The big learning for me was make sure to have set the SN & UUID and keep a backup of these in case a rebuild/deletion is needed.
