Hello guys,

I'm getting a new computer and I was wondering if there is any way I could just transfer the HDD from my laptop into the new desktop or if I would have to clean the HDD do a fresh install and then restore from time machine.

Any comments will he helpful, thanks in advance!

Yes, you can. Your best bet is probably to load UniBeast and after you select your language, you can just do a restore from backup. After you boot do your hard drive, you'll need to install Chimera and FakeSMC.kext.

Thanks for you answer so I would still need to buy Lion, create the bootable USB and go normally through the process?. My problem right now is getting the OS, the app store doesn't want to accept my debit card, apple support says that everything seems ok and the bank also says that they dont have any blocks on it, so I can't download it. That and saving time are the reasons why I want to try to do it from the HDD, so what I'm really asking is if there is a way to just setup the bios to boot from that HDD and then install Chimera and FakeSMC.kext to deal with drivers and such.

Thanks a lot for all the help.

Do you have an external drive case with USB you can put your hack HDD in or an adapter to connect your HDD to the USB port on your MBP?

If yes, then use SuperDuper or CCC to clone the Mac drive, put the clone in your hack and use iBoot (or iBoot IB if you have 7 series board and CPU) to boot the HDD. Run MultiBeast to install fakesmc, bootloader, audio and LAN kexts, etc.

Thanks a lot, this is what I was looking for, I will try it tomorrow when all my parts arrive and let you know how it goes. Thanks again for all the support.

Hi,
Why should we backup the drive first ?
My old original Imac is out of order (power supply) and I would like to use its current HD with Lion and all my files allready on it on my future hackintosh. I have allready an external drive with Time Macine backup. Can i just mount my old HD in my Hackintosh and then run MultiBeast ?

If it's a SATA drive then yes.

It is not meant as a backup - it is meant to leave the original HDD in the Mac in case the hack mod fails and you need network access to download files or research problem. A working Mac is better than a gutted one without a HDD.

I'm back.
I buit my new hardware (Motherboard/CPU/RAm in a mini box and i put my old HD with Lion in it).
I don't have access to a mac to build a bootable usb drive and i can't find any solution to make a bootable media (IBoot...) with my windows7 little notebook.
Can anyone help me ?

Does your windows machine have a CD/DVD burner? If it does download iBoot (Snow Leopard) or rBoot (Lion/Mt Lion) and burn the image to CD. Use the CD to boot the hack.

Hi I'm new to hackintosh and have some minor experience building computers, from years ago. So basically I'm new to all of this.

Saw this old post and was wondering the same thing, if my current Mac SSD with 10.7.5 can just be installed into a newly built Hackintosh setup and go? Will it boot from the SSD right away? Do I need to do anything to the current SSD while it's in my Mac before transferring to the Hackintosh to get it to boot?

I do have an external SSD case that runs off USB. Would getting a new SSD and installing that internally then booting from the Mac's SSD in the external case then transferring the contents over, be better?

I'm still researching the components I want to buy, but I'm leaning towards the GIGABYTE GA-H81M-HD3 LGA 1150 Intel H81 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard with a i5-4690K processor.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will continue my research on other posts as well.

The hard drive in your mac needs, at a minimum, a boot loader and FakeSMC.kext to be able to run on a PC. Networking and audio can come later. A Clover boot USB or a UniBeast USB to boot it with will work if you just install the Mac drive in the PC. If the Mac still works, best to clone the drive and install the clone in the PC instead.
