Hi,

I wanted to repurpose my laptop by turning it into a Hackintosh. However, I want to make sure that my laptop is compatible for such a thing. Is an ASUS Transformer Book Flip compatible? I know that I have the one with an Intel Core i3 in it. Any help is appreciated.

I appreciate it, but I'm lost. I don't know if my laptop is truly compatible. Here's what I know about the laptop:

  • Intel Core i3
  • 4GB RAM
  • win 8.1 64bit
  • UEFI (hates BIOS)
  • Intel Graphics
  • Bluetooth 4
  • Elantech touchpad
  • Realtek Audio
  • Qualcomm WiFi

Will this work?

Did you read the compatibility post yet? If you had, you'd realize that most of the info you list above is not detailed enough.

Read the entire compatibility post and the entire FAQ, including the various links from it. That should give you an idea as to what you're up against.

For example, you'll need to know:
- the specific CPU you have
- the chipset
- the specific Realtek audio codec (from Linux audio codec dump)
- the actual WiFi chip you have (very few are supported)
- the specific bluetooth hardware (only a few work well)
- the specific graphics chip and your internal screen resolution

After you gather that information, since you have UEFI, you can proceed to install using Clover. After installing, you'll have a much better idea as to what works and what doesn't. Most of the problems you'll run into are in the FAQ.

It is a lot of work, especially if you're new.

System: manufacturer/model + bootloader(Clover/Chameleon/Chimera)
CPU: detailed CPU model + motherboard chipset
Graphics: all graphics devices + laptop internal screen resolution

For example, typical Ivy laptop:
System: HP ProBook 4540s (Clover)
CPU: i5-3320m/HM76
Graphics: HD4000, 1366x768

Use CPU-Z on Windows to find CPU (Core iX-xxx) and motherboard chipset (HMxx), and graphics capabilities. For a laptop, these details are important and affect critical installation procedures.

Ah, I see. Perhaps OS X on my laptop isn't a good idea after reading the pages you sent me. Thank you.

Not sure why you would come to that conclusion.

From googling your laptop specs, it is typical...

You're right, that was kind of stupid of me on my part. I was away when I started the thread; now that I'm near my laptop, I'll see if I can find the specs out.

Also, what's the 'System' part in the profile?

Alright, updated my profile.

You should follow the Clover guide.

Thanks! I just started the process. However, do you know if there will be any issues with WiFi? I just updated the profile.
