I'm considering dual booting mac OS X and windows 8 on my new laptop. I would greatly appreciate any advise against or for attempting this with my PC, is it plausible? Also would like to know what is the difference between lion, leopard, etc which is best and why?

It should work. But touchscreen is not really supported by OS X.

You should read here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/laptop-compatibility/106791-laptop-compatibility.html

The various 'cat' names were what Apple once used to name the various versions of OS X. The latest now is Mavericks (not using cats anymore).

their is no option to change laptop into achi instead ide in bios.... however I know my chipset is compatible, because the information in device manager states, its a intel chipset family sata achi controller,
please help:banghead: , thank you in advance

Most modern laptops are in AHCI mode with no option for IDE. So, it is likely your laptop is already in AHCI mode.

I apologize in advance if I misword anything, when trying to load mavricks from usb initially, it would not not boot up. since my bios is a uefi bios, I have followed what most ple advised me to do, which is disable secure boot, and then enable boot in cms, when I do this it loads the usb properly , I type -v and press enter, and then it starts loading followed by some errors stating achi ....then reboots..... i'm guessing its because I don't have achi enabled in my bios, how can I do this?? like I stated above i'm almost certain its capable but no option is seen, once again thank you in advance

You should read the compatibility sticky at the top of this forum... You are way off-base on the cause of reboot.

if i'm mistaken sorry nut it states something about legacy mod... I'm not sure, if you could point me in the right direction i'd appretiate it

You have a Haswell CPU. Read the note at the bottom of the compatibility sticky (and follow the link). Hint: You need to patch the kernel or use Clover (which can patch the kernel on-the-fly).

Also,

Please provide complete details in your profile/signature
(Profile/Settings link in upper right corner of this site)

System: manufacturer/model
CPU: detailed CPU model + motherboard chipset
Graphics: all graphics devices + laptop internal screen resolution

For example, typical Ivy laptop:
System: HP ProBook 4540s
CPU: i5-3320m/HM76
Graphics: HD4000, 1366x768

Use CPU-Z on Windows to find CPU (Core iX-xxx) and motherboard chipset (HMxx), and graphics capabilities. For a laptop, these details are important and affect critical installation procedures.
