Hello all. I'm Planning on undertaking the task of installing osx (hopefully 10.9 mavericks) onto my dell 15r se 7520. I have been reading through the forums for the last few days to get a grasp on what to do, but idea's are still scrambled to me.

First of all my hardware info:
Dell 15r SE 7520
CPU - Intel Core i7 3632QM Ivy bridge
Main board - Intel HM77
Video - Intel HD 4000 / AMD Radeon HD 7730M

I will be following this guide

http://www.tonymacx86.com/374-unibeast-install-os-x-mavericks-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html

As far as i know there is still no way to get the 7730M working, and that is ok. From what i have read the hd4000 will work fine with max resolution of 1366x768. I go this information from

http://www.tonymacx86.com/laptop-compatibility/138841-dell-inspiron-7520-15r-se.html

in post #4 of that topic i will be following this advice
"Install newer VoodooPS2 to /Extra/Extensions on the USB (the one in Unibeast is old): https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-Voodoo-PS2-Controller"

Unless the unibeast has been updated and there is no need. Not sure.

I learned from reading through these forums that the wifi card i have ( Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230) will not work in OSX. From reading this page http://www.tonymacx86.com/network/104850-guide-airport-pcie-half-mini-v2.html I ordered myself a Broadcom BCM943225HMB Wireless 300M Wifi wlan 802.11 N 3.0 Bluetooth BT Card. I believe that should have both working bluetooth and wifi in OSX. Hope so, as i already ordered one :)

I'm really doing this a learning process. Years ago i installed osx on a dell mini 10v which was pretty easy from what i remember, I except this to be harder. It will be awhile before I receive the wifi/bt card to even begin this process. Just making this post to get some suggestions to make the installation process smooth. I would like to have a clearer understanding before I attempt this.

Hopefully I provided enough information in this post. If not please inform me of what i need to add. I hope that my post is well enough formed and informative that people with advice and knowledge will appreciate it and have suggestions.

Thank you for reading.

Thanks for the link. Interesting read.

You are right, there isn't much of a question. Just making sure I have a good idea of installation procedure. It will be a few days before I do this. Until then I will continue reading up to understand the process better.

I will probably have more specific questions when I start it :)

There is no better way to learn than by doing.

Certainly.

Indeed, best way to learn is to do it. Completely agree. Waiting on the WiFi card to arrive before I start.

Appreciate the replies :). Thank you

I have read through many posts that you have helped people with, and is why I know what little I do.

I've been at this for awhile with no luck :(

I can't even get to the installation screen. I've googled and googled and the solution eludes me.

I get to [agpm controller] unknown platform, then my screen just bleeds into white. Im not sure what to do at all, can some please advise.

Thank you

Should mention, i built with unibeast, and choose laptop and legacy usb support.

completely stumped as to why I can get to the installation. Been a few days now messing with it, always what i think is kernal panic after agpm controller message.

I'm not sure what to do. I think the problem is in the 7730M card, but there is no way for me to disable it. I read through some posts that it can be disabled by a dsdt but i have no idea how to so that.

I have a fresh unibeast usb waiting for some advice as what to do.

When i started this process it was just a fun project to do, now it consumes me and I have to make it work :)

Thanks for looking

maybe this system info will help suggestions on what to do

I know the wifi card will not work, but i will be replacing that as soon as it gets here :)

Did you disable Radeon in BIOS?

If you can't, you may need to remove the Radeon kexts (AMD*, ATI*).

Also, you may be using the wrong ig-platform-id. The correct one depends on screen resolution.

So...

Please provide complete details in your profile/signature
(Profile/Settings link in upper right corner of this site)

System: manufacturer/model
CPU: detailed CPU model + motherboard chipset
Graphics: all graphics devices + laptop internal screen resolution

For example, typical Ivy laptop:
System: HP ProBook 4540s
CPU: i5-3320m/HM76
Graphics: HD4000, 1366x768

Use CPU-Z on Windows to find CPU (Core iX-xxx) and motherboard chipset (HMxx), and graphics capabilities. For a laptop, these details are important and affect critical installation procedures.

Thank you for your reply.

unfortunately I can not disable the 7730M in bios. I wish I could.

I am creating a fresh unibeast installer at the moment, and am going to to try to remove AMD kexts in single user mode when I run the installer using,

fsck -fy
mount -uw /

mkdir /Backup
cd /System/Library/Extensions
mv -Rf AMD* /Backup
reboot

If that doesn't work, I will try removing all graphics kexts.

Ill post back after my attempt.
