Edit: Admin, could you please move this to where you think the post is most appropriate.

I don't know if this an appropriate place to ask or not, but I'm curious to hear what users experiences are developing in Xcode on their hackintosh's. I haven't seen any threads about it and thought it might be a good topic to start.

Anyways, I've probably spent about 30 hours now working on an iOS app on my hackintosh. Everything has been working very well but I've run into a couple of minor issues. For this first one I'm not sure if it's my OS, but of course it's a suspect.

I have this iOS app I've been working on, it's targeting iOS 5. I have an iPad 2 running iOS 5. I am a registered (paying) developer, and the device is registered. I've gotten to the point where I would like to test it on my device, but I am getting an error message whenever I try to do so. I'm not on OS X right now so I can't look at the error message, but basically it says the device is not a compatible iOS 5 device.

I also had an issue the other day where my screen was flashing off while I was doing dev in Xcode. It's not a huge problem, but a bit of an annoyance. I'd be in the middle of writing a line of code and the screen goes out for maybe 1-5 seconds. It happened about five times within a thirty minute period. It had never happened before, and it has never happened again.

You.. Can do that on Xcode? I thought the emulator was the only option...
*runs off with iPad :D *
I'll check whether I have the problem too..

Thank you admin.

Splapster, please let me know your result. FYI you have to be a registered Apple iOS Developer ($100 annual fee), and you have to have registered the device on developer.apple.com as a test device.

I'm new to iOS dev and haven't tested on the device yet so I'm not certain the problem I'm having has anything to do with my OS. But I've done a bit of research and tried different build settings with no success. I probably won't have the free time to work on this til the weekend, but when I do I'll share my results.

Anyways, like I said I'd like to hear what others experiences are developing on a hackintosh, so if you're a developer please post in this thread.

I haven't paid a cent yet.... :D I simply downloaded the sdk
Planning to though...
Anyway I have no access to the computer till next Tuesday
I'll get to you by then.
Cheers!

If you haven't paid, you can only use the emulator and can't download your app to a real test iDevice.

Yeah you can get Xcode and the iOS SDK for free.

Paying allows you to; test on device, submit to the app store, and beta test new releases.

I wouldn't recommend doing it until you've made some headway on a serious app because it's an annual fee. If you're not planning to put something on the app store it's kind of pointless.

You must consider that I'm still in school :D

You may test on the read device but it takes some steps to config... I didn't remember but you may search by the keyword "debug iOS without developer account" or something like this.

i'm interested too, and got a few weeks xmas break for some bootcamp style reading /coding in between things. best suggestions to get started?
