Hello everyone,

I am trying to convert a 15" iMac Globe to something more useful, while keeping the original LCD panel.
I have seen many projects here do this, at least the bigger models.

I have followed the pinout for the 15" TMDS cable from this site: http://hidekyan.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/2009/07/imac-g4-dvi-2-1.html

But when hooking this up I do not get any video, I can see some errors in the Console however that a display was trying to be connected.

Not seen in the picture is that I have a 1K Ohm resistor between DVI 14 and 16 while testing.
Can anyone see any wrongdoings, instantly? :banghead:

The cables are re-crimped because they had some scratches from the tear-down, most colors should be what original color is.

Have you verified the colors of the wires by testing continuity to the 30pin connector with a multimeter? Not all of these necks were created equally. You may have to map your own pinout if the neck is different.

Just a thought. Good Luck!

Thanks for helping me out Ersterhernd, I am very impressed by your mods. :headbang:

This is somewhat embarrassing but maybe it'll help someone else in the future;
My problem was the inrush-current, it was too high for my 3.3v source. I put a capacitor on the rail and voila - everything works! The pinout in the picture/link was correct for me.

Next issue is the sleep-mode, gives pattern with garbage-lines and graphics. VCC/EDID from DVI source is active even though my computer is in sleep, so I cannot use that pin for detecting signal..?

(using macbook with displayport->hdmi->dvi :oops:)

Odd. In all my iMac builds (G4 and G5), I have it configured as such that sleep mode triggers a relay to turrn off the VCC source to the display, either the PicoPSU or the iMac PSU. The only power that remains active is standby, which of course leaves the LCD off, sound off, etc.

One of my 20" G5 LCD panels exhibited a behaviour similar to yours when I tested with my laptop HDMI. Screen rotated 4 or 5 solid colors in sleep mode. Very odd.

Shutting off VCC during sleep fixed it all.

Cheers!
