Hi there,

I'm having a strange problem with my ProBook 4530s, the screen is flickering vertically on gray backgrounds (like the header of this forum) - I'm wondering how can I fix this? I have already installed the fix for graphical glitches, but it doesn't seem to fix this problem.

This wasn't happening on my last install.. the only difference I'm aware of is that I'm on 10.8.3 now and running off an SSD.

Thanks!

Sounds like a hardware problem... Does it do the same under Windows? Same on different browsers?

Actually I can sometimes see the flicker as well. I guess that's just a fault of a sh*tty display (haven't changed to full hd yet). Same story on Windows, it's OS-independent. It's quite rare though - looks like the display just doesn't like couple of specific shades of gray and flickers on the parts of websites (for example) when showing them. It's a slight flicker, nothing too too much annoying.

So you guys think the 1080p upgrade screen might get rid of this problem?

If its not too tricky a mod it might be worth the effort.

I see this too with most greys. It's nearly imperceptible while looking at my screen head on. and it becomes increasingly visible as I tilt my screen in any direction. I never noticed this in Windows.

I have confirmed this is an issue with Chrome on Mac, possibly when using a slightly unusual screen resolution (like the default screen res of the ProBook).

Sadly they seem to be doing nothing to fix it, and so I suppose I must consider moving my browser usage (requiring syncing across devices) to Safari, which is at least snappier on iOS. It's just too annoying to have to deal with constantly.

Edit: I do wonder if upgrading to 10.8.4 might fix it, but I doubt it.

I'm running 10.8.4 and the flickering is still there. I have only noticed it in chrome, and only on this site. It's something to do with the white grey gradient.

It is a known problem with certain laptops/certain screens. No known solution. Use a different web browser.
