I have a new (to me) Probook 4430s that will be arriving tomorrow. I have ordered a 16g ram upgrade and a new Samsung 840 250gb SSD for it. I wanted to go ahead and install all of my upgrades prior to installing the OS for the most trouble free setup.

It has an i5-2450 installed and I am intrigued at the idea of upgrading that to an i7. I see many successful upgrades on 4530 models, but not on the 4430s. Any success stories out there before I purchase the new cpu?

Well, I just bought a 2720QM on eBay so I guess we will find out if it works.

Should be fine, if u care only about performance and not about heat/noise...

Although it might work, you might run into issues with heat.

According to the ProBook 4430s service manual, the most powerful CPU (as valid replacement part) is an i7-2620M. This is a dual-core part with 35w TDP. The i7-2720QM is a quad core part with 45w TDP. Clearly, the cooling system may not be designed for the higher TDP of the quad core CPU.

my 4440s. Yes, it's a slightly newer arch, but my QM rocks hard.

No heat or fan issues.
