I'm having a very frustrating problem with my 4530s hackintosh. First specs and process:

HP Probook 4530s - model A7K05UT

Intel® Core™ i3-2350M
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM
Intel® HD Graphics 3000

Replacement WiFi Card: HP Atheros AR5B195 Probook 4530s Wireless Wifi N BT bluetooth Card 592775-001

Did clean install of Mountain Lion using UniBeast 1.5.3 and Probook Installer 5 with options appropriate for the system.

Ethernet did not work out of the box but got that working using fix from these forums.

WiFi didn't work either since I didn't know about the Atheros card issue. Replaced the card with one that was linked to from these forums. The computer recognizes that it's there but will not connect to any network it sees (Connection time-out warning) and sometimes has difficulty even finding the networks. I've searched these forums for possible answers but so far nothing has worked. I have reset the bios. I have deleted all the networks in the System Preferences Network pane and then re-added them. I tried a few other things that I can't remember off hand since I tried them a few weeks ago and haven't been able to get back to dealing with this until now.

Thoughts? Suggestions? This laptop is for my daughter and I'd like to give her a relatively painless Mac experience...

Thanks in advance.

you didnt tell us if its 10.8 or 10.8.1 or 10.8.2 , at the moment 10.8.1 is highly recommended for complete noobs.

the .x makes a huge difference, i tried the 10.8.2 updates, combo and non combo and they didnt work right of the bat, even after i tried the solutions some peeople here got working for themselves. i may have mixed up some steps, so just waiting till a 10.8.2 + probook update is available.

the pros/cons of a hackintosh is that when an osx .x update from apple is available, it might not go smooth for laptops. not sure about desktops.

10.8.2 if you are on rehabmans level of skill and experience, ie figuring out how to patch stuff like kexts and dsdts, which is still jibberish to me.

It's on 10.8

Wasn't feeling the need to get it up to date before I figured out all the basics first.

Hi, I just finished my first ML install on the 4530s.

After a power down and reboot, making sure the light on the button was on, my wifi fired up and connected. I did have another reboot and lost the mouse and keyboard. A shutdown/restart cleared that up. (I don't have a clue).

Anyway, I used the latest unibeast (downloaded this morning), 10.8.2 from the app store, installed unibeast to a 8gb stick using a vmware machine.

I replaced two files on the unibeast install to be able to install on an MBR partition. After, I did the boot device wait fix and:

"
Apple's OS X Mountain Lion update to 10.8.2 has modified the IOAHCIFamily.kext once again, resulting in a failed boot with the ìStill waiting for root deviceî error on the console. The previous fix wonít work, as well.

Here is the updated fix for 10.8.2's version of IOAHCIFamily.kext. Donít copy-paste everything into the Terminal at once, do it one line at a time. Pasting the whole code at once will result in the second half of the commands being used as your password at the first sudo command.

The following commands place a backup of the unmodified binary before patching it.

cd /System/Library/Extensions/IOAHCIFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext/Contents/MacOS
sudo mv IOAHCIBlockStorage IOAHCIBlockStorage.orig
sudo cp IOAHCIBlockStorage.orig IOAHCIBlockStorage
sudo /usr/bin/perl -pi -e 's|\x8b\x4a\x00\x00\xeb\x03|\x8b\x4a\x00\x00\xe8\x01|g' IOAHCIBlockStorage
sudo /usr/bin/perl -pi -e 's|\x74\x0e\x48\x8d\x3d\x72\x92\x00\x00|\xbf\xc8\x00\x00\x00\x90\x90\x90\x90|g' IOAHCIBlockStorage
sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions

sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext
sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions
"

It's been running with sound and everything I've tried, working. Thanks to all the volunteers who posted this information!

:headbang:

There are two sellers of these cards on eBay. I got two of them (ordered, sent back, ordered another) from the Fleming, NY guy and had this problem with both of them. Bit the bullet and ordered from the China guy and had it work flawlessly. I read it posted somewhere that the NY guy pulls them out of laptops and it is a common problem

That will be the third card I purchase. *sigh*

And yes.. A link to the "correct" card?

ever tried to boot linux and then disable/re.enable it ?

should help
