Hi, I want to try to dual boot my HP Probook 4540s with Windows and a Mac OS and I've noticed a lot of people with success at dual booting their laptops.

I am currently testing a caddy I bought online with two Windows 7 ssd drives with different backgrounds, but it never boots from the caddy. In Legacy boot mode, it doesn't appear as a possible boot device; in UEFI Hybrid it gives the error message: "An error occurred with the boot selection verify media is present and retry".

Would I be correct in assuming that the problem most likely stems from the caddy? (note: it doesn't have the dip switch)
If so, are there any vendors that you recommend for the optical drive caddy? If not, what else could I test out or try?

Without details on what you're doing, no idea.

What details do you need?

Start with your profile...

Please provide complete details in your profile/signature
(Profile/Settings link in upper right corner of this site)

System: manufacturer/model + bootloader(Clover/Chameleon/Chimera)
CPU: detailed CPU model + motherboard chipset
Graphics: all graphics devices + laptop internal screen resolution

For example, typical Ivy laptop:
System: HP ProBook 4540s (Clover)
CPU: i5-3320m/HM76
Graphics: HD4000, 1366x768

Use CPU-Z on Windows to find CPU (Core iX-xxx) and motherboard chipset (HMxx), and graphics capabilities. For a laptop, these details are important and affect critical installation procedures.

Then...

Boot loader you're using (actually should be in your profile, see request above).
Are you booting Windows via the bootloader or standalone?
What are your BIOS settings (UEFI, legacy, hybrid?)
Do you have fast boot disabled in BIOS?

Win7 requires hybrid for UEFI boot.

Did you install Windows UEFI or legacy?

If booting from bootloader, which entry are you choosing to boot Windows?

Note: Getting BIOS to boot from the secondary SATA is always a little sketchy, but really there is no reason to boot to anything but the primary SATA device.

The BIOS setting is currently in Legacy, and the original installation provided by the manufacturer was, if I'm correct, installed in Legacy Mode.

After reading your reply, there are some concepts I'm not familiar with. On a desktop, you can usually install two drives each with a different OS and choose which one boots up by changing the boot order via BIOS (ie: drive 1 has windows and drive 2 has linux). What are bootloaders and are they required in order to boot from the optical caddy as opposed to the primary drive on laptops? Also, I'm still confused as to the difference between UEFI and Legacy.

If anything is missing from my Profile/Signature, please tell me so I can fill it out properly.

What version of OS X?

Should be in my profile now.

What version of OS X?
According to my first post, I am currently not using any version of OS X, I am trying to see if it's possible to dual boot between two hard drives, each containing a Windows 7 operating system with different backgrounds to differentiate the two. One is located inside the notebook where the hard drive is located, and the other would be located where the CD drive would have been, but has been replaced with a hard drive caddy. I am currently testing to see if such a thing is possible? If it works, then I will try to install Mountain Lion.

Missing Probook model. Missing screen resolution.

You can do that with the standard Windows bootloader.

Not related to hackintosh, therefore off-topic here.
