Webcam Problems with FaceTime

I'm having a unusual problem with using my probook 4540s webcam with facetime in mavericks.

The camera works with photobooth perfectly, as well as the cameraControl application provided by the probook installer.

However, as soon as I open facetime the image freezes. So what I do then is, close the CameraControl app or the photobooth and reopen either of them and the image reappears on facetime. But as soon as I click on the facetime window, the image freezes again and I have to repeat the process.

This told me to open CameraControl first and then facetime. Which as I said above does work. I can see the camera image in the facetime window. But as soon as I click anywhere on the facetime window, ie.make it the active program, the camera image freezes in both the facetime app and the cameraControl or photoBooth apps.

Any help or information appreciated

I have the exact same issue on an i3 4540. I have an i5 4540 also and it has no issues at all.
Facetime does work when started from iMessage but as soon as the facetime app window is touched, it freezes until photo boot, video settings from iMessage or camera control is opened.
