Hi,

I am using a Probook 4530s, and all the sudden it stopped booting up. I have been running my setup 10.8 ML for about a year now without any issue. One day my battery died, and it just shut off, and after that it only boots now with my USB installer in it.

How can I repair the boot without destroying any other data.

Thanks in advance for your help on this matter.

Difficult to help when you haven't specified exactly what happens when you attempt to boot from your HDD.

Hi,

I get boot device not found error (3f0) boot device not found.
Its not booting up whatever it is that makes the drive boot OS X ML.

I can only from the USB installer now.

I have been running ML for about a year now without any boot issue.

Thanks Again.

You are probably lacking an active partition.

Check with:
Code:
sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

You should have a partition marked with '*'...

If not, use fdisk to mark a partition as active.

Hi,

I only see one with unknown ID. Do I make that one Active?

Thanks

Thanks for the link, but i'm confused about which one should be my active

i know its not dev/disk3.

disk0 has 4 partitions which one should I make active:

EFI 1 or should it be partition 2 to make it boot correctly again.

Thanks

Probably partition 2 (your main OS X "MyMac" partition)...
