I don't think anyone has made it work... or no one technical is motivated enough to make it work.

It is almost 2014... VGA? Really?

Well Why not? Probook comes with VGA. I have my Pico projector that requires VGA, my 24 in monitor needs vga. So for me its a need ATM. :)
I Just came across this thread http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/291614-intel-hd4000-and-haswell-inject-aaplig-platform-id/

I dont understand technical terms, so could not figure out what they are talking about. tried few bits but no luck? does it meant to work on probook?

Apple is not fond of VGA especially on hacks... It works on the 4x30s or Sandy 4x40s (HD3000) with patched AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext, but not on the Ivy 4x40s (HD4000). Whether that is because it isn't possible or because no one has made an informed attempt is not known to me. You might search for some information on patching the AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext connector table and see if you can accomplish it yourself.

And how is that related to making VGA work on HD4000?

HD4000 works on my Probook 4540s, you only need to have a right DSDT file.
The only thing I'm not happy with my hackintosh is that it drain the battery so fast!

The discussion is about the VGA port...

Sorry for digging up a thread, but is it possible to run both HDMI and VGA ports, while NOT using the built-in display? (sandy 4540s) They both work independently, I don't know how to "explain" to the computer to turn off the built-in one... (except by closing the lid, but then it just goes to sleep)

I'm going to say almost certainly the answer is no. I looked into it awhile back. The on-board GPU is not designed for this so it would require the same horsepower as driving 3 displays which is a bit much for this kind of a machine.

I am feeling lucky my old trusty 4530s does have the working VGA, as my soundcard's expresscard->firewire adapter blocks the HDMI port rather annoyingly. In all my days searching I never did find a super low-profile HDMI right angle adapter, or even a USB3 adapter.

I found a low profile USB2 hub for the blocked USB2 port at least!
