I just picked up a 4430s w/ i5 and ssd from ebay with mavericks preinstalled and i would like to know what what i should watch out for if anything. i'm also curious as to what secondary hdds and ssds size and brand are working best for these probooks.

You should probably re-install from scratch to be sure it was done correctly.

Any will work.

just another couple of questions,

should the hdmi audio work?

Should the via work?

is there anyway i would be able to find out which method was used to make this hackintosh?

i meant vga, my apologies.

VGA works on HD3000 with the patch to AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext. The patch is automatically applied by the ProBook Installer.

Yes, all supported 4x30s have the HD3000.

Use either guide -- it is personal preference. I would recommend a Clover-based install, although some report intermittent issues with wake up from sleep using Clover on 6-series ProBook (as is yours). Personally, I have not run into those issues.

If you want well tested, use the original (non-Clover) guide. Be aware that updates, although easily handled, are not as seamless as an install using Clover.

If you want to be on the bleeding edge, then give Clover a try...

well somehow or another i've managed to make the display of this laptop into 4 sections, with the 2 on th bottom being discolored. any idea on what may have been modified? side note, i migrated it to clover prior to reboot before this happened.

You probably installed the incorrect config.plist and/or selected the wrong options for DSDT patching in the ProBook Installer.
