NVIDIA has released their alternate graphics drivers for OS X Yosemite 10.10.0 These are separate from the drivers Apple ships as standard, and should be considered experimental. These drivers have been known to solve OpenCL issues with certain applications, as well as providing better native GPU power management for certain devices.

NOTE: These drivers are currently the only method to get full acceleration for NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750, 750Ti, 970, and 980 'Maxwell' graphics cards. There are no current Macs with these cards, so support is absent natively in OS X.

If you've installed the drivers before, you may get a notification to update to the 10.10.0 drivers from the built in System Preferences pane.

How to Install the Web Drivers:
In order to flag the alternate drivers on a CustoMac using Chameleon/Chimera, you must install the package and also add the flag manually to the chameleon.org.Boot.plist. If you use Clover, you can toggle back and forth using the standard menubar or system preference pane.

1. Open Finder
2. Navigate to /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist
3. Open in TextEdit
4. Add nvda_drv=1 to Kernel Flags as shown:

Example Usage:

Code:
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>nvda_drv=1</string>

5. Save and reboot

You should be on the new NVIDIA drivers. :)

Please note that these drivers should be considered experimental. If you aren't having any issues, do not install- the native OS X drivers work great for most people.

Can someone please check if the Preview Application is working correct?

GTX 980 here, I booted with HD5000 no problem. Installed driver. Inserted Kernel Flag, then reboot.

Begins to boot, bar goes halfway along - and at the same point where the HD5000 boot to Desktop the GTX980 does blank screen on me.

my kernel flags are

<string>kext-dev-mode=1 nvda_drv=1</string>

I also have Graphics Enabler = No, IGPEnabler=Yes, UseKernalCache=Yes

Yosemite WILL boot with the GTX 980 in when i use the OS X Nvidia drivers. Albeit in safe mode, just not when I select use Nvidia Drivers from the web (in the control panel)

any help appreciated.

WORKING !!!!!
Asus Gene VII Maximus, Yosemite, GTX 980. Everything works.
There are 4 DO ports on the GTX - i swapped the cable port to the furthest away from the screws

Let say i reinstall Yosemite from scratch? Can i directly plug a Maxwell card, or do i need first to install using the iGPU, then plug the maxwell card and install the web nividia drivers to make it work? Or can i directly install with the maxwell card plugged ? (I'm a multi beast user not clover).
Thanks

I would install from scratch with iGPU, then install drivers, then insert card, then change bios to pcie. Go to control panel in settings and select the Nvidia web drivers - it appears to default to OS X Nvidia drivers.
Let me know if works - whats you Maxwell card?

And the good news is...

Don't forget to plug your video card before installing the driver (otherwise it will say your computer is not compatible). Then, remove nv_disable=1 and use nvda_drv=1 in your boot args.

Enjoy! My GTX 750 Ti is now more than happy

AT LAST!!! My GTX 750 Ti was getting dusty :p

I'm doing a clean install of Yosemite. So, should I install the OS without the card first, then add nv_disable=1, then connect the card, then install the NVIDIA alternate drivers, and then remove nv_disable=1 and add nvda_drv=1?

What I did :

1. Clean install of Yosemite with Clover, without the video card.
2. Add nv_disable=1 in boot args
3. Connect the card
4. Reboot
4. Install the latest NVIDIA Web Drivers
5. Remove nv_disable=1, add nvda_drv=1
6. Reboot, but don't connect your screen to the video card yet.
7. Go into the bios and disable IGFX, select PCIe 1st slot as the first selection. This will enable the bios to be displayed on your main screen connected to the video card. Now you can connect your screen to the video card.
8. Boot into OSX, this will now be even faster than before :)
