NVIDIA has updated their alternate graphics drivers for the new OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 Supplemental update. These are separate from the drivers Apple ships as standard, and should be considered experimental. If you've installed the drivers before you can update from System Preferences.

How to Install the Web Drivers:
In order to flag the alternate drivers on a CustoMac, you must install the package and also add the flag manually to the chameleon.org.Boot.plist. For Chimera bootloader:

1. Open Finder
2. Navigate to /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist
3. Open in TextEdit
4. Add nvda_drv=1 to Kernel Flags as shown:

Example Usage:

Code:
<key>Kernel Flags</key>
<string>darkwake=0 nvda_drv=1</string>

5. Save and reboot

You should be on the new NVIDIA drivers. :)

Please note that these drivers should be considered experimental. If you aren't having any issues, do not install- the native OS X drivers work great for most people.

Dumb question -

I have a Fusion Drive setup. How can I modify org.chameleon.boot.plist on both drives? Do I just need to boot from the installer USB? or do I even need to do that to both? Can I just do it on the version that OS X "sees" when I'm booted up?

edit: answered a couple of my own questions:

1.) Editing in Finder is not enough. I have nvda_drv=1 as part of my kernel flags but the nVidia switch utility in the taskbar shows OS X Default Driver as checked. Selecting the Web driver and rebooting does nothing, which I think is normal.

2.) Booting the USB installer and mounting a partition does not work. I get a "special file system" error that prevents me from mounting for example disk0s3.

So did I need to keep my "source" disk around still? It's got Windows 7 on it now, so no spare hard drive, but I guess I could try to turn one up.

Edit 2: Got it working!

If you don't add the kernel flag string as you set up Mountain Lion on a Fusion drive, you can still mount your diskXs3 partitions even while booted from the fusion drive and copy the plist to the Extra folder. Once you do, reboot and you'll be using the Web drivers as evidenced by system profiler. Since I don't have the FileNVRAM.dynlib module (because I'm using Chimera) the preference pane still shows the OS X Default driver anyway. I can switch to the nVidia driver and back and forth but it's purely cosmetic because the kernel flag forces it to use the web driver.

That's all here and staying just in case someone else with a fusion drive is as confused as I was.

This update did not solve my intermittent crash under OpenGL. I'm very disappointed.

my video card is 275GTX; Nvidia report to support GeForce 200 series: GTX 285 for Mac. So, do this update support my card?
thanks

Your Card. Any one with Fermi card have any progress in solving Freeze issue

I'm happy with the official Apple drivers. About the Freeze issue i still use freezefix app.

So Far So Good Without Freezefix On the latest drivers 8 hours in, leaving the computer idle and using it for work. On A 560Ti.

Thanks for checking in- this is good feedback for sufferers of the Fermi freeze (450, 550Ti, etc..)- I did some testing myself with the GTX 770 and Core i5 and the drivers don't have any noticeable change in performance. Only difference was in system profiler with this particular card.

Out of curiosity, does anyone have autosleep working with these Nvidia drivers (all versions)?

My autosleep works fine without the drivers but once I install the nvidia ones, autosleep does not occur. Its easily rectifiable by just deleting them but itll be nice to have the drivers and have auto sleep.

Im suspecting its got something to do with this string

<string>darkwake=No nvda_drv=1</string>

Darkwake=no has been confirmed to have autosleep working (or really can even delete Darkwake alltogether and itll still work). The issue lies in the nvda_drv=1 part.

Any ideas?

Correction, Encountered 2 Complete System Lockups. but a very rare occurrence as compared to any other time, Running with freeze fix to determine if this is a fermi freeze situation
