Bitfenix Prodigy or Mac Pro/PowerMac G5 Hackintosh and Recommended Parts

Hello,
I am new to the Hackintosh. I have spent at least a month and a half researching. Now I want to build my own. I have narrowed my case down to two options. I will either buy a Bitfenix Prodigy on NCIX.com for $80 or mod a Mac Pro or G5 case from eBay or Craigslist. I looking to know what you guys, Hackintoshers, think about what I should do? I know that the Prodigy needs a mini ITX, but that is fine for me if I can find a good motherboard. The real Mac case though, I know can carry an ATX, which could be good for me to expand the system. I also would like to know parts that would work well with these sizes and fulfill my needs. I need a basic desktop that I can do school work and play the occasional GTA or NBA 2K on Windows (dual boot). Though, I am 13 and as I go into higher education and beyond I may need I nice computer. Thanks for the help in advance and I really look forward to hearing about what to do about the case and recommended parts. And if anyone has done a mod before please share!

I would recommend the Bitfenix Prodigy case. I am using it myself and I am very pleased with it. At 13 I'd imagine your money not to be all too disposable so go for something that is guaranteed to work.

As for which parts, check out some CustoMac recommended builds and the Golden Builds thread for some ideas. The Bittermelon's "Chip" build is what I based mine on, with only a few different parts.

Huh... first, take a look at the Customization forum section and the article of the recommended parts. I can't advise anything about the cases, for me it's nearly all the same, the only factor is the silence.

When you have ended with the narrowing of the hardwares we will rate it.

It basically depends on how much work you're willing to put in. I'm currently in the process of modding a G5 case, but it's going to take me a while because I do not have much time for it with school. However, the end result's going to be awesome. Read the threads in the case mods section to get an idea of what's involved.

I have read the thread on tonymacx86.com that was recommended by LifeHacker. I still am not sure what to do. I really do know that I can put in the work, as long as it takes, because I love computers. I guess it comes down to cost, success rate, and whatever else comes into play

I have also read the CustoMac guides both mini and regular and like the specs. I think an i3 would be best for me unless I find a good deal on i5.

Welcome to the forums and its nice to see young people with an interest in Hackintoshing!

Firstly, building a system all comes down to money. If you give us a price range, we can help you pick the right parts.

Secondly, if I was to choose what system to build, I would go with the Bitfenix simply because the insides of G5 builds are messy. Although they look good on the outside, there is little room for cable management. Plus all the modding to get an ATX Motherboard to fit. Some people like the look over the functionality, but I personally think its a pig with a bright pink dress.

Any help would be great Maybe even examples for each case like a parts list for the G5 mod and a list for the Prodigy

There may have been a problem in my last post? Basically to shorten it, thanks passive and MechSoup. @MechSoup my price range is about $400 because as passive pointed out I don't have much money. @passive I'm glad to hear of your success with this case! Can you please tell me what the cost of your system was?

By the way, I'd like to see which monitor you all use. I say a good deal on the Cinema Display that came before the current one now. Would that be good to go along with the Hackintosh? I may plan to build it over Christmas break after I decide on the final parts!
