hey,
my hdmiport is a little bit buggy,i think.
if i connect my tv,i DONT get sound out of it,and i have to switch to HDMI(Samsung) in Sysprefs..
but then it tells me that this device haven't a sound output, and i can't control the level with my keyboard, but after a few seconds something comes out of the tv!

Should this be so or is it a bug?

in my experience, this is how Apple implemented HDMI audio.

first, as you said, you need to go into the Sound preference panel in system preferences in order to tell the probook (works the same way on a real mac--i have a macbook air) which sound device to use. since you have already connected your probook to your samsung tv, the OS knows that is a valid sound device and therefore it is showing on your sound menu.

then, as for the slight delay, i think it takes a few cycles for the audio device to sync up with the TV, then the sound works fine.

i have always gotten HDMI output and sound to work, altho sometimes i need to reboot with HDMI connected, and sometimes after disconnecting from HDMI i have no video on my probook screen, so i have to reboot. i consider this a minor aggravation in return for the ability to take advantage of the widescreen tv's in hotel rooms, instead of having to watch tv on my hackbook on my lap!

Today I tried HDMI output but there's no sound. Do I need to plugin HDMI cable before booting?

did you go into the sound preference panel and choose HDMI audio (if it recognizes the device you're plugged into, such as your TV, it will list that as a valid sound device choice)?
