How to Buy a Snow Leopard DVD

Snow Leopard has officially been discontinued, but is the only way to start fresh on a CustoMac without access to a Mac. I present another method to obtain the Snow Leopard DVD right through Apple Store online.

You will have to do a bit of homework on this as you will be calling Apple Store online and requesting a Snow Leopard disk. What you will need to do is get a Macintosh computer detail of a system that was released with Leopard and then explain that you want to upgrade to Snow Leopard but are unable to find a disk via the store online or any curbside store. Only reason I say to get some older Mac info is encase they ask you for what system because they are going to make sure you can run Snow Leopard on it so make sure you don't choose a PowerPC version Mac. You also want to say that you want to upgrade to the latest version but are unable to because you don't have access to the App Store online. That was introduced in 10.6.8. so with a tad of white lying you should be able to obtain a Snow Leopard disk via Apple. You might even be able to get the Lion USB stick as well.

I know Snow Leopard works as I have conformation of this from a close personal friend who I told to call Apple a get a disk after he received a MacBook running Leopard and needed to upgrade to run WoW on it.

He called and was able to buy it for $21.62 after shipping.

I do not know if this is a fixed price but its a heck of a lot cheaper then $100. that you find on Amazon or eBay.

Wow- didn't realize they still had these in the warehouses. Great that you can call them and purchase it, even if it's not in the Apple Store or online anymore.

In my opinion the best way to get access to Mac OS X Snow Leopard is by becoming a registered Apple Developer. You get access to full images of every OS X release for $99/yr.

Snow Leopard purchase at Amazon.co.uk seems higher priced considering the exchange rate. Cheaper than single user. I picked this up earlier in there year for £38

You can probably get the 10.7 Lion USB Thumb the same way by calling Apple or going to an Apple Store and requesting it. If it's still available. However, it costs $69.00, then you have to get Mountain Lion for $19.99.

Hi all,
I hope that it is ok to ask this here. But it should be ok since it is about how to Buy Snow Leopard.

Hopefully, this doesnt need to be a seperate thread. I am planning to install OS x on a separate drive which should arrive by the end of the week. I've looked through all the guides and I'm good to go (found all the files I should need such ad DSDT etc), except, I do not yet own a copy of Snow Leopard.

On Ebay, there are many listings for a Grey disk, that does not have the image of the leopard on them. I suppose that it is specific to a Mac model. But their prices are greatly lower than the prices of the Retail Box set. Would these versions work for a CustoMac install? Or is there a different layer of legalities that come into play for trying to run OS X from a non universal disk? Is there a problem using those versions?

Thanks in advance for an answer on this. Again hope its the right place.

Ah, well, thats a little bit my own fault. I acted a little on impulse and bid for one of the grey disks a few days ago, and its possible I might win the bid. I guess that if I win, the disks will be useless to me.

Also I am not very good on the phone when it comes to not being 100% accurate or honest. I'd probably start the conversation by accident "I want to build a Hackintosh." Well, kidding. I will give the call a go later. But I get the feeling, it may not be available anymore in Ireland.

[edit2] And I just got off the phone from the Apple Store. Never knew just how wonderful the customer service is. I should get the disk within a few weeks. So to confirm, this process still works as of 17-Oct-2012. And I am so very surprised how pleasant the call is. I followed the route of "I have an old computer and I want to access the App Store and I think I cant do that on Leopard." (all of which is true btw).

Now all I hope is that I don't win that disk I bid for
