When I open iTunes I receive error (-50) and when attempting to sign I get error (5002)

When I try to sign into the Mac apps store all I get is an unknown error has occurred.

Any ideas?
Thanks so much!

Try the following:

Move these files (where ~ is your user account) from the Preferences folder to the Trash.

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db

and then try signing into the apps store again.

download the utility 'show all files' and toggle it to 'show' so you can see the files.

I did that and they still aren't there... any ideas?

Appears that you your itunes app has gotten messed up - perhaps some files have been deleted. I would delete all of your itunes apps (including backups) and re-install. After installation, look for the files in /Library/Preferences. After a successful install, they should be there.

Should I also delete all files that deal with the Mac app store?

also you apparently cant delete iTunes from mountain lion...

To anyone looking for a solution to this I've cracked it with the help of the forum

Just navigate to the root of your installation drive then go to:

Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/

and delete: NetworkInterfaces.plist

(and make a secure copy somewhere else if you are sceptical!).

Reboot

Should be working now.

You sir, are the MAN (or woman as the case may be.) Thank-you very much.
