Comments:
The graphics card is fanless. Power supply is EXTREMELY quiet.

The one thing I might have changed is the cheapo case I got- it's been discontinued. The case is a bit cramped, but actually works quite well for what I have. You probably don't want this case if you're planning on having 2 graphics cards, but then again, you probably wouldn't be buying a micro-ATX board if you want to run 2 graphics cards. One of the front panel's plastic snap-on nubs came off when I installed the CD/DVD drive. But I will say this- the fan is quiet.

The Jabra bluetooth adapter identifies in OS X as built-in, so you can use the System Preferences pane for Bluetooth. No issues, other than it doesn't make the Apple bluetooth stuff work with wake/sleep. For a dongle that does, check out this topic- I think it's a Targus model: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. ... 272&st=140

Apple keyboard and magic mouse- hands down the best keyboard and mouse I've ever used. Gestures on the mouse are as responsive as the iPhone/iPod touch. Once you get the feel of it, it's absolutely awesome. The keyboard is really good- again, takes some getting used to. But if the things you have your hands on while using your Hack are Apple products, it kind of completes the experience- don't know how else to describe it.

I'm also still using the stock Intel cooler. I may go for a cooler if I ever plan on overclocking this machine. I built it with tight budget in mind- altogether with discounts at the time about $500.

EDIT: I swapped the 9400 GT for an 8800 GT, which works with dual screens with GraphicsEnabler=Yes only. No need for NVenabler64. :)

Re: tonymacx86 UD2 Build

Thanks so much for this great community! I successfully built first Hackintosh last month following your Boot CD method. I too was using a combination of new/already owned parts and was trying to work with a small budget. Aside from the case and drives, the differences between our builds are:

Core i7 860 Processor Boxed
Corsair XMS3 4 GB DDR3-1600 (PC-12800) CL9 Memory Kit
PNY XLR8 9800 GT EE 1024 MB PCI-Express 2.0
OCZ 600MXSP 600 Watts ModXStream Pro Power Supply

Like I said, I followed your tutorial Boot CD tutorial and got it up and running on the first try! Been using it daily for over a month now and have experienced absolutely no problems. I also installed Windows Ultimate 7 on a separate 80 GB HD, so I have a dual boot machine.

I have been reading your recent blog updates, and when I have the time I will try and update/tweak my system to closer match yours.

Although I was able to get my Apple Magic Mouse and Wireless Keyboard to pair with my OSX using an Iomega Micro Bluetooth dongle, I was not able to get the keyboard to work during BIOS; it only seemed to get recognized after OSX booted up. Are you experiencing the same problem? Or can you enter the BIOS with the Bluetooth Apple wireless keyboard?

Because I do want to boot into windows from time to time, I have been using a Logitech wireless usb keyboard instead, as it is recognized on boot up. I'm hoping that maybe you can shed some insight on how I can get the Apple wireless keyboard to work in BIOS.

Thanks,

Bruno

Re: tonymacx86 UD2 Build

Hey Bruno- glad the system is working out for you as well as mine! I haven't been able to use Apple Wireless Keyboard or Magic Mouse in bios- I'm pretty sure there is no way to do this, as the system doesn't have bluetooth on the motherboard, and the dongle isn't recognized by BIOS. Perhaps with a PCI card- I really have no idea.

If you find a method, let me know- I actually haven't needed to do this, as I have my system set up in the office connected to my monitor and wired peripherals with a long RCA + S-video cable through the wall to my (standard def) CRT TV in the living room with my bluetooth peripherals. It's almost like having 2 computers- can watch videos and surf the internet in the living room. Needless to say, if I make any adjustments in Bios, I do it in the office. ;)

Re: tonymacx86 UD2 Build

I have my Apple Wireless KB working in BIOS just fine.
Check out the last few posts in that linked insanelymac thread re: BT Dongles.

Could you please provide a link - I can't find that thread :)

Here you go:

I have not yet tried it as I can not get the "Bluetooth Firmware Updater" to find a compatible device on my system. I am using the DBT-120 revision B4 USB dongle.

I think that EnzoFX had posted that he too could not get the updater to find a compatible device under Snow Leopard, but that he was able to update the firmware on the DBT-120 by running the "Bluetooth Firmware Updater" on an old iBook.

EnzoFX, what OS was the old iBook running; was it 10.4 or 10.5? I'd really like to flash the dongle that I have so that I can use the keyboard in BIOS.

Re: tonymacx86 UD2 Build

Sorry for the lack of link, but my entire progress with the adapter was documented in that last page or so of the insanelymac thread.

Basically, yeah, I could not get the utility to flash the adapter under SL/Intel/64bit. I tried it with an iBook because I noticed in the app's documentation that it specified it was PPC-Only. It is running 10.5.7(haven't bothered updating to .8). This way, it was able to run just fine. Detected the device and successfully flashed the adapter. I immediately noticed that the Bluetooth option in SysPrefs "Allow BT Devices to wake the computer" was now available to me. I took this as a great sign, removed the adapter from my iBook, and plugged it into my SL hack, and the option there was NOT available to me. Right now I'm guessing this is something Apple needs to fix in SL.

Nevertheless the firmware works otherwise. The way it works is that it functions as an HID device, so it works just like any usb KB in BIOS would. When Mac OS loads, it recognizes the firmware/device and then treats it as a BT device/adapter. If you dual-boot, Windows will no longer see the BT Adapter (without help), but the KB will work, it'll just think it's a regular USB KB. I've noticed sometimes it takes a 2-3 seconds for the KB to "turn on" I assume this is because the KB, it being bluetooth, powers off and needs to re-establish the connection. So.. you may need to "initialize" the KB with a random key press a second or two before you need to press something, during boot that is.

Here is a link to the firmware:

Re: tonymacx86 UD2 Build

I wouldn't recommend using that update- it's for Mac OS X 10.3!!

Stranger things have happened- can't believe using a 6 year old update would work though.

Re: tonymacx86 UD2 Build

haha, well it works, for PPC which is what it was designed for.

There aren't very many other options either, if any, for enabling a BT KB in the BIOS, seeing as since late 10.3 and onward, Bluetooth was standard in all Macs. I'm assuming that all the onboard ones in Macs have the same functionality.

Tried the Bluetooth Firmware Updater on my PowerBook- it doesn't work for Jabra adapters. I guess the firmware is for D-link only?
