Hi guys and gals,

I'm hoping someone may be able to help. I am in IT so my general IT knowledge is pretty reasonable however the quicks of Chimera and Hackintosh's are very new to me. Here is what I did:

Built a new Maverkis laptop without any real problems as per the guide on this site, and loaded Chimera boot loader to the system using MultiBeast. The system was booting fine to OSX straight from the boot loader on the disk. Please note I installed to a 45GB partition leaving about 65GB free (120GB SSD). All great so far :)

I had a Shadow Protect image of the laptops previous Win8 install (with all my apps and settings etc) so I restored this to the free space partition on the drive. Unfortunately now when I booted the system boots straight to Win8 (no Chimera boot loader seen).

I booted from my OSX install usb disk with Chimera on it, and it offers an option to boot to OSX, which I did and this worked perfectly. Note however Chimera did not see the Win8 boot option.
Inside OSX I loaded MultiBeast again and ticked Chimera, and installed.
My thought here was this would restore the Chimera boot loader to the disk and hopefully Chimera would see both OS's and offer the option to boot to either.

Actual Result: Chimera boots, only shows the OSX option and even then when it tried to load OSX I get this boot failure (on the grey start OSX screen a bunch of text comes up and the system halts.

Note: I realized I didn't select any of the 'customise' options in MultiBeast, could that be part of my issue getting into OSX?

How does one modify Chimera to add or recognize the Win8 boot option?

Thanks heaps if you have got this far, and even if its a case of directing me to some how to guides or doco it would be appreciated :)

Thanks in advance

Guy

[SUB]Hey there, well progress but not full success.

Selecting the options in the customize part of MultiBeast has OSX up and running fine.

Now all I need to do is get Chimera to see the Win8 boot option.
Any ideas?

Thanks, however if you read my post you will notice the reason I restored from the image was to preserve the application installation and configuration of the previous windows 8 install. That's kind of the point.
Hence why I was asking how to repair the Bootloader to see the partition. If I wanted to wipe the previous installation image I would have followed that guide from the start.

Cheers

The problem is that you probably installed windows UEFI and needs to be legacy that's why chimera doesn't show it you can use a restore disk after reinstalling windows and windows should be installed first before Mac OS X or you'll have this problem again best advice anyone has is start from scratch or just use unibeast every time you wanna boot Mac OS X

The laptop is actually quite old (Asus G1SN, Intel Centrino (Core 2 Duo) Circa Windows Vista!), I was rather surprised the Hackintosh worked on it at al but with a SSD and the 4GB of RAM I put in it, it actually runs really well!) Im pretty sure the BIOS (AMI BIOS) doesn't support UEFI so could this still be a possibility? I have the Hard disk in AHCI mode.

I am happy to play around with the Bootloader (try a later version) if I knew a bit more about where it lives, how I can back up a working config so if I stuff it I can boot of my USB to OSX and restore it to where it is now etc

Cheers

Guy
