Gigabyte Z87X-UD5H and Yosemite

Hi there !

I managed to install Yosemite without any problem yesterday.
However, the system is quite unstable, it freezes frequently.

Hardware specs:

  • Gigabyte Z87X-UD5H on latest BIOS F9
  • Intel 4770k CPU
  • 4x8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz
  • ASUS GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II OC
  • External USB Audio interface (Fireface UCX, latest drivers and firmware)
  • 3 SSD drives

BIOS configuration:
  • Intel Virtualization Technique: DISABLED
  • VT-d: DISABLED
  • Windows 8 features: OTHER OS
  • Initial Display Output PCIe 1 Slot
  • XHCI Mode: AUTO
  • Intel Processor Graphics: DISABLED
  • XHCI Hand-off: ENABLED
  • EHCI Hand-off: ENABLED
  • I am not using any RAM profile, I just set the multiplier to 16.0 so it reaches 1600Mhz
  • The onboard audio interface is disabled since I used an external one.

Multibeast configuration:
  • Version 7.0.1
  • DSDT-Free, I load up the default configuration
  • System definition is Mac Pro 3,1
  • I just add: Network driver AppleIntelE1000e v3.1.0

I run the latest Yosemite NVIDIA web drivers.

The system boots up without any issues, everything work fine except it freezes after a while (5 minutes to 1 hour, depends of the activity). Looking at the crash logs, the last error I get is related to the "mds" process. For example:

Code:
[COLOR=#000000][FONT=Helvetica]21/10/14 12:02:11.415 mds[32]: (Volume.Normal:2464) volume:0x7ffe0201e000 ********** Bootstrapped Creating a default store:0 SpotLoc:(null) SpotVerLoc:(null) occlude:0 /Volumes/firmwaresyncd.Z0qS77[/FONT][/COLOR]

Code:
[COLOR=#000000][FONT=Helvetica]21/10/14 13:34:16.986 mds[32]: (Volume.Error:577) vsd:0x7fb2bb861a00 Open failed.  failureCount:5 {[/FONT][/COLOR][COLOR=#000000][FONT=Helvetica]    DisabledRecycleCount = 5;[/FONT][/COLOR]
[COLOR=#000000][FONT=Helvetica]}[/FONT][/COLOR]

This is my experience so far, I'd like to know if someone with a similar setup was able to have a 100% stable system. On Mavericks, everything was super stable, never crashing or freezing.

I'm open to any suggestions !

Update 1: Trying to use definition iMac 13,1 / NullCPUManagement, still the same freezing issues.
Update 2: Disabled USB legacy support in BIOS / using the Intel network driver AppleIGB v5.2.9.4 / Mac Pro 3,1 definition: doing a stress-test, so far it works flawlessly, will report back a.s.a.p.
Update 3: All working great, see my third post for full configuration details.

I had the same problem: Try to disable the Ethernet Card in the Bios and Chameleon (Internal Ethernet Fix..) and disable Legacy USB Support in Bios.

Cheers.

Hi !

Which ethernet card should I disable ? I need at least one !
I will try disabling "Legacy USB support" and see how it goes now.

Thanks ;)

Now that my system is stable, here are the full configuration details:

BIOS configuration:

  • Version F10 -- Load optimized defaults
  • Intel Virtualization Technique: DISABLED
  • VT-d: DISABLED
  • Windows 8 features: OTHER OS
  • Initial Display Output PCIe 1 Slot
  • XHCI Mode: AUTO
  • Intel Processor Graphics: DISABLED
  • XHCI Hand-off: ENABLED
  • EHCI Hand-off: ENABLED
  • RAM profile 1
  • The onboard audio interface is disabled since I used an external one.

Multibeast configuration:

Do not install any ethernet driver, they seem to be unstable as of now.
Yosemite has compatible drivers anyway.

I run the latest Yosemite NVIDIA web drivers (343.01.01f01)

This is my configuration and it is stable so far.

See attached Multibeast 7.0.1 config file.

i had similar problems and i fix this unchecking the generate cpu states option from multbeast.. now it's stable..
no KP or freeze in two days

i5 4690
GA-H97M-D3H
HD4600

no need nullcpumanagement or patched kernel..
the only problem is consumption.. a little bit higher than mavericks with cpu states enabled

I'm on Clover and I have minor glitches (Finder stalling on login, YouTube crashing). If I set the system definition to 3,1 it works flawlessly...however my serial number is still pointing to a 14,1, which makes conflicts...seemingly not anything other than visually.

I am on ****** desperately trying to get someone to help me create a proper config.plist for my system, and some people are attempting to help, but I wish owners of this motherboard had a bit more info.

I may have to switch it to 3,1....this crashing/glitching and feeling of sluggishness will not do.

You should stick to Mac Pro 3,1.
From experience, changing it will just result in various boot kernel panics or runtime system crashes.

Update:

I still had USB Freeze issues. Now I delete AppleTyMCEDriver.kext as I read on another forum and at now I have no problems...
