I just finished building my second hack (z87x oc, i5 4670k, 8gb corsair vengance) and I had some difficulties installing. I discovered that I was having a dead beef error when going to the installer. I managed to install and run multibeast, but it just wasn't stable. The computer would lock up every 5 minutes or so, or if I did too many things at once (for example executing a couple of key shortcuts while loading a web page). Eventually, upon restart, I got a progress bar at the loading screen. After it made it through what ever it was doing, the computer would shut off. I tried reinstalling and I haven't had the progress bar happen again, but it is still very unstable. I followed wildwillow's guide on the z87x oc board. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

ga z87 has ram issues do your install with one stick of ram and raise voltage to 1.75v then add the rest of your sticks and run memtest86

What system definition did you install?

Try using Mac Pro 3,1 and see if it makes any difference in stability. If it does then the next step would be figuring out what is wrong.

Alright, I changed the definition to Mac Pro 3,1, and after a few restarts, I was able to type this message. This extended the amount of time I had before a lock up, but only by a minute or two. The real problem remains to be seen... :/

Quick update, I just overclocked my CPU to 4.0 just for lolz, and it is stable without safe mode opposed to unstable at 3.5. It has been over 5 minutes and I haven't had a crash yet *knocks on wood*

I think you're just buying time (somehow) until the problem crops up again. You can't possibly be more stable overclocked than you are at stock speeds.

good luck!

It is very strange, but my motherboard wouldn't let me operate at the base clock of 3.4. It made me go to either 3.59, 3.6, or 3.8. I pushed it to 4 just to see what happened, and I'm not sure what the hell life is anymore.

It is now harder to lock up the computer, but not impossible. I found that trying to launch intensive programs such as games coaxed it into a freeze. Any ideas? I have never come across anything like this before and I'm not sure what to try next. But anyway, thanks for the help.
