Gigabyte's bringing out a line of 4.5" x 4.25" x 1.16" mini PCs called "Brix". The 3 models have a 17W mobile Intel CPU embedded on the board, and will be available in Celeron or Core i3/i5/i7 flavors. Other specs include mSATA, mini PCIe slot, gigabit LAN, and USB 3.0. SO-DIMM RAM is also required.

I just can't get myself excited about this until I see pricing.

If its somehow inline with NUC, cool.

If its much higher, a refurb Mac Mini serves me much better.

I've been expecting those for a while, and I've been saving my money as well. I'll let you know how it goes as soon as I get mine! Great news!

I wonder why all the ports on the back are upside-down?

Because apparently the board itself is mounted upside down for cooling purposes, but I'm not quite sure though.

a good solution for a small range of tasks. tried similar to 17w cpu - rated 5 out of 12 points. leadership - low frequency (even though I know that is the whole point.)

It could be better if an audio (>108dB S/N) output would be present at the back-pannel. HDMI is an audio/video integrated solution, but not to attach audio to a Hifi Sound Equipment. USB Sound Interface will be needed...

They could have added thunderbolt aswell, as the Intel's NUC does.
