I'm just wondering if it is possible to run a dual boot of Mountain Lion OS and Windows 7 while having windows on RAID 0. I have a total of 3 SSDs and a single 2TB HDD just for storing music, photos, etc. If it IS possible, some links to guides would be helpful. I built my pc a few months back and had it running both Mac OS and Windows 7 on seperate SSDs, but the dual boot in Chimera wasn't working and I had to use the boot drive to switch between the two operating systems. Now I'm adding a second SSD to Windows 7 so I can try this RAID 0 thing out. So I figured I'd start from complete scratch and have Chimera working as well as RAID 0. Any helpful tips or links to guides would be greatly appreciated. Here are my specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H
Processor: Intel Core i7-3770k
Power Supply: Corsair HX650 Modular
Memory: Vengeance 16 GB DDR3 (2x8)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 660Ti+3GB
Hard Drives:
- Crucial M4 128GB SSD (for Mountain Lion OS)
- Crucial M4 256GB SSD (for Windows 7 and all my games)
- Crucial M4 256GB SSD (second ssd to put Windows 7 on RAID 0)
- Seagate 2TB Barracuda HDD (for storing music, photos, movies, etc.)

This is my first thread so I hope I gave sufficient information. So basically I want to have Windows 7 on Raid 0, ability to boot into Windows 7, as well as being able to boot into Mountain Lion. Also, I will be using triple monitors if that makes any difference (obviously just one while I set this all up). Thank you in advance.

The short answer is no. With only the hardware that you have listed, OS X RAID 0 is a software RAID and is not compatible with Windows n. As I understand the situation, the hardware RAID functionality present on the motherboard is not supported by OS X.

I just want to make sure i understand what you are trying to do, Run OS X on 1 SSD, and Windows on 2x SSD in Raid 0?? OS X will not support the Windows Raid 0, and you might have to use F12 (BIOS boot option) to choose what OS to boot into, other than that, it should work fine.

Hello!

I'm actually wanting to try to do a similar thing tomorrow, but the other way around.
I want OSX on 2x120GB SSD's in Raid0, and Windows 8 64bit on a separate SSD.
Is this possible with the following setup?:

I hope this works, 'cause it was a big spend ;)

I'm also a first time installer, so any additional tips are very welcome!
Thanks :)

I'm having the same issue. I have my Hackintosh on a single Samsung 830 512gb SSD and my Windows 8.1 on two Kingston 120GB HyperX drives in RAID 0. I'm aware of the reliability, which is why I've set a WD 500gb black as the backup to the Windows volume. The performance with two SSD's in RAID 0 is earth-shattering, especially in Windows 8.1 I must say. If you'd like benchmarks, I'd happily provide.

I did notice one thing though:

Now please forgive me as I've been out of the game for a while. Having kids will do that to you. If I set my BIOS back to AHCI, the Hackintosh boots fine. Obviously the Windows volume isn't even recognized so that isn't going to work. However when I set the BIOS to RAID... and I try to boot to the Hackintosh volume I get a long delay in boot followed by the little folder icon centered on the apple on the boot screen. Using Chameleon to boot into the Windows volume doesn't work either. F12 on start-up and selecting the RAID volume from the boot menu WILL boot the computer into Windows though!

There has to be some setting or trick to get chameleon into thinking the BIOS is in AHCI mode. That or just setting Chameleon to boot with RAID mode enabled in the BIOS? Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Maybe you guy are asking why someone would do this? Well in my case, it's because I want the best of both worlds. My day to day computing happens on the Hac, but my gaming is on the PC.

Thanks again guys.
