Can you use a Nvida GTX 750ti card with Mavericks 10.9.5 without the Nvidia web driver? or must it be used? Does it cause booting issues (currently using a GTX 650 without web drivers).

The GTX 750Ti is one of the newer Maxwell cards from nVidia. These cards require the nVidia drivers to work. You will need to be on Yosemite or El Capitan (Public Beta) to use compatible drivers. I would suggest updating to Yosemite to use the GTX 750Ti card. El Capitan installs are best used for testing purposes at this point.

If you must remain on Mavericks for a little longer then your best option would be to try to source a GTX 670 or 770 card either new or secondhand.

Maxwell cards that require additional drivers are GTX750 , GTX750Ti, GTX 960, GTX 970 and above.

I can confirm Adrian's advice since I have a GTX 750 Ti. These Maxwell chipset cards only work in Yosemite with nVidia's Web (and, optionally, CUDA) drivers.
