Hello:

I know this isn't a big problem per se, but now I've got everything working well on the hackintosh (thanks to this great site), I'm wondering about the CPU fan spinup that I found odd from the very beginning.

Like the title says, the fan would spin up at boot and wake from sleep to full speed, and then spin down to a normal and controlled speed that's quieter. I know this is probably BIOS related, and have searched for a way to keep it from spinning up at boot/wake since the noise is pretty loud, and that can't be good for the fan's lifespan?

It's probably just an anal-retentive detail, but since I haven't found any description of this issue on google, I wonder if this is even normal? Does anyone else have this, and is there any way to change its behavior? I'm using BIOS version F9 if that matters.

Thanks in advance.

Same "issue" on my DS3H... and I thought that was GPU fan :)

Can live with that though.

I think that it is normal under ML on GA-Z77-DS3H V1.0. I ended up replacing the stock intel fan with cooler and quiet fan to reduce the noise.

I was never able to figure out a software or bios way to control the fans. Let me know if you find one.

At the start PWM = 4-pin fans will spin up to 100%, because the mainboard is checking if the fan really is a 4-Pin and can be PWM controlled.
Why this happens after sleep… I don't know, must be the same reason.

[SUP]I realise this thread is a bit old but its unresolved an I just wanted to add that I also have the same problem. I have a H80i installed on a 4770k with Mavericks (10.9.1) and the cooler fans spin at full rpm on boot up. Additionally when I put it to sleep the PC goes into a continuous cycle where it will sleep and turn off its fans and LED's and then immediately afterwards will run the fans at full speed and turn the LED's on, then after a minute or so it will again turn off the fans and LED's. I have no idea how to sort this out and I don't really want to put my computer to sleep like this when running OSX.

However I can confirm that when I put it sleep via windows 7 the computer does not periodically run the fans at full rpm.[/SUP]

Ug did you ever find a solution? I have the h80i and the same processor, i cant stand the constant jet spin up cycle when its in sleep!

Hi,

I'm experiencing this full speed fans upon wake issue as well. H80i, 4930k, and Asus Deluxe X79 (with Power Management working). Anyone have any ideas?

Any find a fix for this? My fans keep spinning to max and stopping for a second then repeating whilst in sleep.

BUMP! Has anyone found a solution to this yet? This is driving me nuts.

A GA-Z77M-D3H user here. Experiencing the same thing.

I don't get the feeling it's very normal behaviour for the machine, especially because it happens pre-Chameleon, and happens when Windows wakes from sleep too.

I think you can safely mark this as solved, because it's very much a hardware issue that can, as someone noted, only be 'helped' by installing a fan that doesn't support PWM.
