There are native drivers for this card in OSX. I have 2x Plextor Extreme 256GB SSD running in RAID 0 as my boot drive and 4x 2TB Seagate with 64MB cache, running in RAID 5. I have my home folder mounted in the RAID 5 setup and I'm getting over 500MB read and writes to this drive. My 2 SSD's are getting over 700MB writes and over 900MB reads.

Thank you for sharing your specs

I have a similar setup, but I can't get the Logical drive to show up in the Chameleon boot options.

Would you mind posting your settings? I'm interested in:

  • Your RocketRaid 2720SGL Firmware version
  • Your System Information > Parallel SCSI Settings (screenshot would be awesome)
  • Motherboard make/model and settings
  • Chameleon boot args/settings

Here are mine, but no dice on boot.

Computer is a Gigabyte Z77x-UD5H and 2x Samsung 2TB drives

I'd like confirmation that the HighPoint RocketRAID 2720SGL card works with the built-in kernel extension in both OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Mavericks. Preference for known compatibility with a Haswell i7 on a Gigabyte Z87 board. If so, it certainly seems like an economical choice for increased storage today.

I'm not interested in it for a boot volume, fwiw.

Does the 2720SGL work with an unmodified HighPointRR.kext, did the kext need to be modified (concerns about signing), or did drivers need to be installed (the OS X-related drivers for this series seem oriented around the cards with only external ports, and for older versions of OS X)?

Did anything need to be installed to support the Web interface? Their RR272x_1x driver package includes an old-style StartupItem to launch "raidman-httpsd." Not exactly up with the times.

Looks like a firmware update enables RAID 6. Also, the Web interface seems to support upgrading the firmware, which sounds better than needing a possibly non-existent OS X firmware tool.

Thanks!

I was wondering if you could tell me what driver you are running and where you found it? I can't find any Mac driver for the 2720SGL. I have read that it works "natively" but don't know how you would control the card without some sort of driver/ application.

Thanks!

I'm curious if the web interface works in Mac OS at all. I installed it in Windows and it works fine, but I couldn't find anything regarding a Mac version of it other than the FreeBSD one.

I recently got the 2720SGL working using the drivers and Web RAID management tool for the RR2721 http://hptmac.com/product-Introduction.php?_index=76. I didn't bother testing it just with the HighPoint kexts. So far, the only issue I have is with the RAID volume showing up as an ejectable drive. Annoying, but not critical.

ive been using a 2720SGL in my Lion dual-xeon build for 2 years + now.
its a great card. web management works great, but there's a weird delay between when you start up the machine and the web gui becomes available, sometimes on the order of like 5 minutes.
i have 8 hitachi drives in a RAID50, great performance similar to the OP's results.

its been so long since i set this up, i cant remember if i used built-in drivers or highpoints. im pretty sure its using highpoints, as that was a big selling point of the card. I think built-in drivers got introduced sometime during the Lion era.

its a fantastic card at a great price, with great performance.
ive been considering making myself a new dual-xeon build, with a second 2720SGL with 8 SSDs in RAID10. That will scream.

the one odd thing about the card is it doesnt show up under system profiler at all. Once ive set up the drives, they show up in system profiler under storage, but nothing under system profiler for the actual card itself.

I installed no drivers. I plugged the card in and OSX recognized it on boot. You can download the Web Management UI direct from Highpoints Mac website. Highpoint does not officially support the 2720 SGL under OSX but they do support the 2722 which has 2 external Min SAS ports. The cards are identical accept for the internal vs external interfaces.

Sorry for the extremely delayed response did you ever figure this out?

did someone managed to get raid 6 working?
Also I'd like to ask if there is an easy way to add it to the pci cards.

Right now in my system settings it shows an error @ pci cards

thanks
