Use built-in AppleUSBXHCI.kext.

Depends on the hardware involved.

It is unlikely GenericUSBXHCI.kext will be updated. No developer cares enough about old hardware that has non-Intel USB3.

Need details. Please fill out your profile...

Please provide complete details in your profile/signature
(Profile/Settings link in upper right corner of this site)

System: manufacturer/model + bootloader(Clover/Chameleon/Chimera)
CPU: detailed CPU model + motherboard chipset
Graphics: all graphics devices + laptop internal screen resolution

For example, typical Ivy laptop:
Mobo: HP ProBook 4540s (Clover)
CPU: i5-3320m/HM76
Graphics: HD4000, 1366x768

Use CPU-Z on Windows to find CPU (Core iX-xxx) and motherboard chipset (HMxx), and graphics capabilities. For a laptop, these details are important and affect critical installation procedures.

Also, provide output from 'lspci -nn' in Linux Terminal.

Refer to post #6 for how to fill out the 3 fields Mobo/CPU/Graphics in your profile.

Your lspci shows NEC/Renasas. No solution for USB3 with this chipset on 10.11.

How about this one:

Patched AppleUSBXHCI v710.4.11 (10.10.5)

It may not work for El Capitan, but it works for Yosemite 10.10.5 on my old hardware where GenericUSBXHCI.kext did not. I described my solution in this post:
