Can someone please help! I've been trying different things for days!! I dont know if my issue is hardware based or software based but whenever i open a program other than system preferences it crashes and reboots the computer. In verbose mode afterward it says (among other things) Previous Shutdown Cause 5. Please help!

fixed it. sorry about that

Need more information about your install process now. Is Mac installed on a separate partition but on the same physical drive as another OS, or is Mac on its own drive with absolutely nothing else on it? Did you change settings in the BIOS prior to install? If you did, which settings did you change, and if you didn't, go back and read the install guide again, especially the part where it talks about the BIOS and preparing for install. Also, did you overclock your system? If you did, go back and read the install guide again and try with everything at stock/defaults, and if you didn't, then ok.

One line from verbose mode isn't helpful. But if the computer boots successfully, probably none of the messages are very helpful.

When you login, does the computer tell you that it shut down because of a problem? If so, please post the details here.

I'd definitely boot with nv_disable=1 to eliminate the video drivers as a possible cause.

You can review the recommended BIOS settings.

Otherwise, I'd try reseating you RAM and video card and any other add-on cards, just in case. If you only have one stick of memory, put it in the first slot. If you have two, make sure they're installed in dual-channel mode (which means using specific slots according to your motherboard manual).

i always boot with nv_disable=1 it won't boot without it. I've tried reinstalling El Capitan and now i can't even get past the erasing of my hard drive without it shutting off.

I have 4 sticks of 8gb ram (32gb kit). When i log on and it DOES work it doesn't say anything. Just something to do with my flash drive being broken or something... which its not. But as soon as i do ANYTHING instant shut down.

This is what i see when in verbose mode: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2UGXrzAcBVKeDhBcXdmY01rWTA/view?usp=sharing

its a slo-mo video since i had no other way of capturing it all, it goes so fast.

Thanks in advance.

You have a serial port enabled, which is known to cause problems (though not necessarily this one). I would disable it in BIOS (possibly under Super I/O).

If that doesn't help, I would try removing the drivers for both of your Ethernet ports and boot with no network access and see if that makes any difference.

If that doesn't help, maybe try removing all your memory and just put one chip in the first slot and try some chips individually to see if there's any change.

I don't know how i can remove the drivers for the ethernet ports without an OS(but I'm not connected to the internet)... but i did everything else. and I'm getting the same error.

Removing kexts when you can't start OS X is covered in the big list of solutions.

I see... but it does not seem to be working... its possible its human error at this point as I'm not too smart in this department... Could you possibly help me through it with more information than the guide gives?
