I need to get USB 3.0 working, but my board has got the old NEC chipset. Obviously, I need a PCIE card. Any experience with the Fresco FL1100 USB 3.0 chipset? It is listed in Apple's kexts as XHCI, it seems it used to work OOB at least under 10.8.2, and I saw one mention of it working OOB in 10.11. Since it's not sold locally, I would love to hear some experience from those who have it and upgraded to El Capitan, before I order it from abroad (with all the paperwork and taxes).

Any sleep issues? Any speed issues (back in 10.8.2, some reported not so great speeds)? Does it work OOB, or do you still need to do some port injection magic due to the new way El Capitan USB drivers work? Needs a specific SMBIOS Mac ID to work?

Thanks for any info! If it just worked, it might be the easiest way to get USB 3 without any messing around.

I just popped in an Etron EJ168A that's been gathering dust on a shelf. Worked immediately. Much faster than my built in USB 3.0 ports ever were under Yosemite.

Funny thing is I'm using a Fresco Fl1009 Chipset on my H61N-USB3 build and that causes Kernel Panics in El Capitan

I have an Inateck KT4006 on the way. I'll fill you in when it arrives.

Jbamford, I believe FL1009 is sufficiently different from FL1100 so it won't work - it has different device id as well (unlisted in the apple kext). Although I read it used to work in earlier OS X versions.

Herb, sounds strange. Etron is certainly unlisted in 10.11 XHCIPCI kext. Good if it works for you though. Could you share some details?

Audioguyjosh, thanks! Definitely would love to hear about your experience once it arrives!

I can confirm the Inatek KT-4006 (FL1100) does work OOB in EL Capitan and operates at USB 3.0 speeds. It does not force it run at USB 2.0 speeds like my Etron EJ188 did.

My GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B3 mobo's USB3 ports are controlled by Etron EJ168 chips. El Capitan sees them - System Information shows two "USB 3.0 Bus", and plugging a hard drive into one of the ports makes System Information show a "USB3.0 Device", but the drive doesn't mount and Disk Utility doesn't see it. (The drive works fine in a USB2 port.) What could be going wrong?

Orico PVU3-2O2I (FL1100) was reported successfully in another thread.
However I have a
PFU3-2O2I that looks exactly like the PVU3-2O2I card. This PCIe card is Mac compatible according to Orico's website. I have it working and powered via 4 Pin IDE/ATA Power Supply. However it does not work OOB because it makes my desktop to wake immediately after sleep and reboot instead of shutdown. I have this issue since I upgraded to El Capitan. On Yosemite I had it working OOB.
By the way, I am looking for a solution.
Your comments will be very appreciated. Thanks
