I've been trying to get this ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 to take my Snow Leopard 10.6.3 disk with iBoot and Multibeast and I get nowhere. I also have an AMD HD 7750 (MSI) that may be giving me isues as well.

With search I've found some help with the extreme4 gen3 board, but I'm not sure how similar it is to the Extreme3 gen3. I know these ASRock boards are using the funky ASMedia chips made by Asus. I think it is only for USB 3.0, but not sure. I can live without USB 3.0 if that is an issue.

On install, SL crashes and never finishes install. I reboot and it still crashes. I forget error. I forgot to write it down.

Anyone have some idea on what I should be setting this up as? If iBoot boots OK, and SL won't finish install, what are my options?

Any log files I should be looking for? Do I need an answer type file like windows has?

Thanks for any help

OK, I burned iBoot 3.3.0 and it boots just dine. I swap out for SL 10.6.3 retail disk. I seelect it and the screen goes blank for a minute or two and gives me this error meessage:

Memory allocation error! Addrr: 0x0, Size 0x78014a0, File: ati.c, Line 1557
This is a non recoverable error! System HALTED!!!

Does ati.c mean no support for my 7750 video card?

OK, I just tried removing the 7740 and just integrated graphics on my 2600K and fail.

I then tried my backup 5450 card and it starting installing SL, but locked up about 5 minutes into the install. I left it for at least a half an hour before powering down.

I then tried my aincient 4350 or something, and dame result as the 5450.

It must be the mb. I flashed the P2.20 bios recently and read it's not compatible, so I ordered a new BIOS chip ($17.00) off ebay. Hopefully it'll work for me.

I received my new CMOS with BIOS P1.30 installed.

I am using 4350 for best possible compatibility.

I enable -v so see where it hangs and it is at ln2mac section. It seems to find my NIC card as it posts my mac address and my chip type 81xx, but it just hangs there like it's searching for something. II don't know it it is hanging at the ln2mac or the next item.

I then enable -f, but forgot to enable -v so I couldn't see where it hung at, but it seemed to hang at same time.

II then reboot to try -x, I hit enter without typing -x and it hangs immediately with kernel panic error.

Here's screen shot of error:

OK, now I rebooted and selected -v -x and it hung at same realtek, but then after leaving for an hour or so I get a:

Sleep Prevented by SB 1, SS 0, AS 1

Here's a screen shot:

I have the same mono and am having similar issues. You are ahead of me. Please continue updating your progress

I have some progress to report.

I added the PCI-RootUID=1 -x -v -f at the iBoot screen and it booted just fine. after installation it auto-rebooted while I was AFK and when I came back it now won't reboot?

Oh wait, it got me to the welcome screen while typing this message! I added the PCIBootUID=1 -x -v after re-inserting the iBoot disk and rebooting, then it finally went through after several minutes.

At first it was giving garbled sounds out the speakers and thought it locked up. but apparently it went through.

I also unchecked the options on install with the Customize button to cut down install times.

Now I'll cross my fingers and pray I get in and download Mountain Lion without issue. Not gonna bother with updates or multi-beast if I can help it.

Wish me luck

I you do get it working can you please make a short writeup? I'm very close to putting windows back on it, and pulling my hair out.

Thanks in advance!

I use a 2500k with my Extreme3 Gen3, and have had it working for over a year. Used bioses from 1.30 to 2.30 successfully. Don't give up! It's possible.

Apparently I figured out my problems. I had a bad board. It just died earlier this even while trying to download mountain lion. It just locked up and never came back on.

So Monday I setup an RMA and I'll probably just buy a new board and sell this one when it comes back.

@rlin0997

You would be best off starting a new thread. Make sure you put your full rig in you sig for better diagnosing.

Also, use the -v command with iBoot so you get messages on what's happening. Have a camera ready as it will be helpful to take screen shots with instead of writing a full page of text. I don't think there was any problem with the board per se, I just needed to add the PCIRootUID=1 command, but that could have been the unsupported video cards I was using.

Luck
