Hey Guy, I was wondering is there a DSDT edit for a native Multiple processor support or legacy compatibility? I have a dual Processor machine works great with snow leopard with the legacy kernel. But I installed Lion it works but only with one processor. Does anyone have a fix for this?

im curious as to why youd need a legacy kernel when you have 2 nehalem cpus?

I get a kernel panic if i don't use the legacy kernel. The Mac pro doesn't have a 3.2GHz 8 core nehalem. This hold true for lion as well i have lion installed but i can only use one processor at the moment.

yeh they do.
you have 2x 4core nehalems.

that type of setup works fine with the stock kernel.

what was the kernel panic you were having? did you take any photos?

btw, you can make a dsdt for your board using the guide in my sig. i just checked and your system has a patch available to make the dsdt. thats if you dont have one already

yeah I did but I no longer have it. But. I will take a photo right now and post it immediately. Thanks for the replies.

Here is the kernel panic I get. I Have tried many ways the legacy kernel is the only way to get two processors up and running. Not with Lion its the same i get the same message.

its kp'ing on appleacpiplatform.kext and 2 others.

had a little google for the problem, and i found a thread saying that a dsdt sorted the problem for them (wasnt your system, but had the exact same issue).

do you have a dsdt?

Oh... I don't usually get that error or any kernel panic with the legacy in SL. here is is my DSDT if you want to have a look.

try making a new one, and see if it changes anything.

also google the kexts that your system is kernel panicking on, and see what solutions there are.
hopefully someone who has any ideas on how to sort it respond.

its not your cpus causing the issue though.
others have used 2 nehalems before, eg viewtopic.php?f=81&t=20580

I also have another system similar is specifications but with two 6 core Xeons that message at the top about the "threads" that also appear in snow leopard and also would not work without the legacy kernel this is a new one the one you mentioned before it must be something new for Lion because i am using my same boot plist.
