Is there any info as to whether this BIOS update addresses the freezing problem when all 4 DIMM slots are used on Gigabyte Z87 mobos?

This could very well be something other than UEFI. Two things- make sure each RAM set is matching, and disable XMS Memory settings in UEFI.

Thanks for the reply Tony.

Regarding RAM set matching, is it necessary to buy all 4 DIMMs as a set (4 x 8GB) or can they be bought as 2 sets of 2 x 8GB ?(identical make, model, obviously)

I'm about to embark on my second build (i4770K/Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H/32GB RAM) but the widely reported freezing issue when all DIMM slots are filled is making me think that I should look more closely at a different brand of mobo, probably Asus Z87 Gryphon. I believe these no longer require a patched BIOS and your excellent EFI partition article means that they can boot without requiring the UniBeast stick.

Anyway, thanks for providing a great info source, my first build (i5 2500K/GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3/16GB RAM) has been a stellar performer and is more reliable than the MacPro it replaced :)

Just make sure all of the timings are the same, and rated for Haswell. I generally use 8GB or 16GB in 2 sticks, which is enough for my needs. There's a lot of talk regarding low level software changes/improvements" made in 10.9. In fact some Macs have reported issues. I have a feeling future OS X updates may alleviate.

I had memory stability issues in OS X even with a set of 4 modules on my board. I could not run them on XMP profile at all (granted 2133mhz profile). I could run them at 1333 no problem. 1600 and 1866 were also unstable without tweaks. I eventually got it perfect by raising the IO by 0.2 which stabilized at 1866. Truth of matter is I got some memory that wasn't on the supported memory list and likely has some poor timings. So one thing I suggest is look at gigabyte support articles on supported memory model numbers and make that your shopping list.

Anyways, back on topic. Has anyone had any success modifying PJALM's DSDTs for these firmware updates? There are a lot of little things from the DSDT i can't live without, like charging my iphone. :)

Last July when I built my Hacktintosh, my UD5H froze ceremoniously for the duration of the build. Since then, I took out two of the memory sticks, hoping that when the F8 comes, that would put an end to the freezing, and crashing of Windows 8. I will now take down my machine, and put back the two RAM sticks in. I want to see if I still experience issues of freezing and crashing. After reading about what could be causing the freezing issues, I did however, took a look at my RAM. I think they're from the same kit since they were all bought at the same time as a 32GB kit, and they're numbered sequentially. If I continue to experience the locks like before, I'll be sure to RMA this MB.

Does anyone no if the Bios update for the GA-Z87MX-D3H will fix a problem of my computer restarting every time I shut down mac OS(I don't get the problem when shutting down in windows). It's very odd it seems to shut down completely then when my monitor checks for an available input source to the machine it boots up agin and I've tried turning off my monitor before this happens but it always starts up again after an amount of time(by the way this also happen fast if I have my phone plugged in charging). I was wondering was it something to do with the on off charge feature because (I don't know if this is normal or not) the laser on my mouse stays on and if I hit the numlock key on my keyboard(which it a ps2 keyboard btw) the light comes on. Anyway I was just wondering would a bios flash fix this or could someone direct me somewhere that might help ? Thanks in Advance

System wise I have:
4670k
8gb 1600mhz Vengeance Pro Ram
120gb Kingston HyperX SSD (MAC OS Drive)
1tb Seagate HDD (Partitioned as 100gb(NTFS Windows OS drive)/900GB (HFS+ Mac Storage drive)

If your thinking this system is a bit ridiculous without a GPU I plan to get one in the near future
