I'm a complete noob when it comes to computer hardware.
I chose the Xeon processor, because I heard that the Intel core i7 3930k, is unable to read the Sata 3 HDD.

Case: Chenbro Geh 19 4HE Chenbro RM42300H-2FB o.Nt Case

Motherboard: Intel Gigabyte GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI

Processor: Intel Xeon e5 1650

Cooler: Corsair h60 (2013 Edition)

Ram: Corsair Vengeance BLACK,1600-16GB, CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB - 3.5inch
ST1000DM003
Seagate Barracuda 2TB - 3.5inch
ST2000DM001

Power: Corsair HX 750WATT
Videocard: EVGA GTX 650,1GB

I'm not sure too, which dvd-r is compatible with Mountainlion.

Some advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks Nathan!

I read that you use the 3930k, does it work better than the xeon 1650? Or do you have any troubles with the CPU?

The two DVD drives I've found to work without any sleep issues are the Sony Optiarc models and the
Lite-On IHAS 124-04 Those are the two best choices if you don't need Blu-Ray.

The following DVD drives are known to work with sleep. Note Samsung drives have been known as problematic with OSX.

Sony Optiarc 5280S - Discontinued, difficult to get
Sony Optiarc 7280S - Discontinued, difficult to get
Lite-On iHAS124-04

Some LG's also work, but no model numbers.

BD players that are known to work

Pioneer BDR-208DBK
LG UH12NS29

This may not be an entire list, but represents drives that people on Tonymac have recommended as working.

Edit trs96 faster than me! He recommended the Lite-On drive elsewhere.

Could you explain what sleep/no sleep is?

Because in Holland you still can get the
Sony Optiarc 5280S for something like $35.

Thanks for the reply!

I believe this CPU is on par with the Xeon, however the Xeon is workstation/server grade. I have absolutely no issues with it, other than sleep and speedstep(which is a given)

The lite-on drives are very cheap, and work well. I have 2 in my system. (ATAPI iHAS124)

Is this hackintosh compatible and how to boot this CPU properly E5-1650 ?
