I'm going to buy a Gigabyte motherboard with Z77 chipset, because it's the most recommended one for Hackintosh. I've just compared these:

http://www.gigabyte.us/products/comparison/list.aspx?ck=2&pids=4327,4326,4325,4441,4280

and I would like to know if the soundcards which are the VIA VT2021 or Realtek ALC892 and the LAN which are Atheros or Realtek matters or not.

Yes the sound and Lan cards should both be Realtek. Of those five only the DS3H includes Realtek for both. That's why it's on the Tonymac recommended list and the others aren't.

Actually the UP4 TH also has Realtek for both, but that board has a bunch of unsupported USB ports so is generally not recommended (fine otherwise).

As for Atheros LAN ports; recent versions of MultiBeast include a driver for these so I expect the recommended list may change over time. The Z77-D3H board I'm using has Atheros LAN and it seems rock-solid. I've been doing huge file transfers to/from Macs and have been maintaining >110 MB/s throughput. Very impressed!

VIA audio is a problem though. It's apparently possible with VoodooHDA drivers but I gave up on playing with that on this board and just use a USB audio dongle instead.
